Despite being regarded as a country lacking genuinely fast bowlers, India has managed to produce some of them who, at their peak, have managed to bowl some really fast deliveries to unsettle the batsmen all over the world. Here are some of the fastest deliveries bowled by Indian bowlers. The list includes only those deliveries whose speeds have been officially measured.
#6 Zaheer Khan: 147.0 kmph (91 mph) v Holland ICC Cricket World Cup 2003
Zaheer Khan, making his debut in the 2000 Knockout trophy, immediately impressed one and all with his pace and swinging yorkers. He kept that up by bowling at blistering pace throughout the 2003 World cup. He bowled this delivery at 91 mph to Dutch batsman Dan van Bunge.
#5 Javagal Srinath: 149.6 kmph (92.5 mph) v Australia 1997/98 season
In an era where India was abundant with medium pace bowlers, Javagal Srinath came like a breath of fresh air. He was an out and out fast bowler, regularly bowling in the 90 mph bracket and probably the only Indian bowler to do it consistently for a decent period of time.
Even after a shoulder operation, he managed to make life difficult for the Australian openers in the 1998 Test series in India. This included a ball delivered at 149.6 kmph to Michael Slater.
#4 Ashish Nehra: 149.7 kmph (93 mph) vs. Zimbabwe ICC Cricket World Cup 2003
Ashish Nehra made his debut against Sri Lanka in 1999 and established himself as a swing bowler who could bowl at decent pace. But, during the 2003 World Cup, Nehra was in a different form altogether. After a career best performance against England, he bowled ferociously fast against Zimbabwe, repeatedly hitting 90 mph.He then bowled a 93 mph delivery to Andy Flower, which caught the batsman by surprise.
#3 Umesh Yadav: 152.2 kmph (94.5 mph) vs. SriLanka 2012
Vidarbha pacer Umesh Yadav is probably the most fastest bowler in India. He has been able to exert better control and be in a better condition physically in comparison to Varun Aaron. Also, he tends to bowl a more fuller length, thereby allowing the ball to swing, which makes him more lethal.
#2 Ishant Sharma: 152.2 kmph (94.5 mph) vs. Australia 2011
The tall Indian seamer has a special liking for Australians when playing in Australia. The pacy decks Down Under seems to bring out his best. His 'hitting the deck hard' style has proved to be very successful on the bouncy wickets of Australia and South Africa.
#1 Varun Aaron: 153 kmph (95.3 mph) vs. Gujarat 2010-2011
Varun Aaron bowled this snorter of a delivery against Gujarat in a domestic tournament in 2010-11 season. This was one of the reasons that led to his selection for the ODIs against England in the home series. With this delivery, he is thereigning fastest Indian bowler, closely followed by Umesh Yadav.
