18th October was a pretty intense day for football with all the leagues resuming their full-fledged football. Chelsea, Arsenal from the Premier League, Real Madrid and Barcelona* from the La Liga and the state Maha Derbi between Pune City FC and Mumbai FC were one of the top matches. In this slideshow, we shortlist the five best goals scored: [Barcelona were yet to play at the writing of this article.]
#4 Cristiano Ronaldo - Real Madrid v Levante
The Portuguese forward continued his red-hot form as he scored twice in an away La Liga fixture against Levante as he bagged his 14thand 15thgoal of the season from eight matches played.
Cristiano Ronaldos opened his scoring through a penalty, however, this one right here wasnt as easy as his first as he dribbled past two Levante defenders following a pass from Iscoblasting a shot past through goalkeeper Diego Marino.
#3 Xabi Alonso - Bayern Munich v Werder Bremen
Following his move away from Real Madrid, Xabi Alonso had been already earning a lot of praise in the Bundesliga, and a free-kick like this is certainly going help the midfielder’s reputation who tucked in a free-kick after a smart routine involving Thomas Muller and David Alaba in the 27th minute of Bayern Munich’s home encounter with Werder Bremen.
This was Alonso’s first goal for the Bavarians as he scored from a low-lying free-kick which went past Bremen keeper Raphael Wolf giving Munich a 2-0 lead who eventually ended up winning 6-0 at the end.
#2 Cesc Fabregas - Chelsea v Crystal Palace
The second goal for Chelsea during their Premier League tie against Crystal Palace was scored by Cesc Fabregas in the 51ststminute as Chelsea comfortably won past Palace with a 2-0 scoreline. This goal was Fabregas first goal in four years with his last being against his current club Chelsea in December 2010.
The goal finds its place in the second spot because of the lovely build-up involving Fabregas, winger Eden Hazard and Oscar. Fabregas has earlier assisted seven goals in seven matches but was yet to break his duck for the Blues until now.
#1 Oscar - Chelsea v Crystal Palace
Our pick of the day would be Oscar’s stunning free-kick, simply because of its simplicity and elegance. This goal marked Oscar’s 26th goal for Chelsea as he scored through a free-kick off his right foot against Crystal Palace to go past goalkeeper Julian Speroni, opening the scoring for the Blues just 6 minutes into the game.
The goal was scored from 25 yards out, and it is worth noting that both of the Brazilian’s goal in the Premier League this season have come in the opening seven minutes of the game.
