Best and Worst players on Day 7: 2014 FIFA World Cup

We present to you the best and worst players of day 7.Games played Australia 2-3Netherlands Spain 0-2Chile Cameroon 0-4Croatia

#1 Goalkeeper

Chile Keeper Bravo (L) and Cameroon Keeper Itandje (R)

Best Goalkeeper- Claudio Bravo (Chile)

The Chilean goalkeeper and captain did a very good job in keeping the likes of Costa, Torres , Xavi and Iniesta from scoring anything which would have jeopardised Chile’s chance of advancing into the next round. Though the spanish themselves were to be blamed for their lacklustre performance, Bravo who remained alert right through the 90 minutes ensured that it was the South Americans who emerged as winners.

Worst Goalkeeper- Charles Itandje (Cameroon)

Itandje looked clueless right through the game and Cameroon having a bad day in the office with Alexandre Song being sent off and Samuel Eto’o absent with a bit of tension witnessed between Benoit Assou-Ekotto and Song the negativity certainly made an impact on the 31 year old and Cameroon crashed out of the World Cup.

#2 Defender

Gary Medel (Chile) (L) and Alexandre Song (Cameroon)(R)

Best Defender- Gary Medel (Chile)

Gary Medel was ruthless in the back and made a couple of interceptions which ultimately helped Chile pull of the game. The fact that he also complimented his other fellow defenders assured the Chilean attackers to go all gun blazing.

Medel never allowed the Spanish attack to attack freely and never even gave them an inch to come unmarked and finish the match. The fact that Medel also kept Iniesta and Alonso quiet also played a huge role in Chile winning the game.

Worst Defender- Alexandre Song (Cameroon)

Easily the worst defender. His sent off was a simple act of foolishness and that hampered the team.

Not only was he bad in defense as Croatians had already taken the lead, but his punching of Mario Madzukic was uncalled for as it blew away the steam from the Cameroon ranks and they lost the game and crashed out of the tournament.

#3 Midfielder

Charles Aranguiz (Chile) (L) and Sergio Busquets (Spain) (R)

Best Midfielder- Charles Aranguiz (Chile)

Aranguiz made sure that Chile didn't make any hard job of progressing to the next round. His goal was the most important moment as not only did it allow Chile take an unassailable lead, but it also acted as a cushion for the Chilean attackers to move forward and keep attacking. Apart from scoring the decisive goal, Aranguiz also kept the team busy with his regular passes.

Worst Midfielder- Sergio Busquets (Spain)

It always hurts to see someone like Busquets missing the easiest of chances which even a kid would have scored.

Busquests not only missed a memorable chance to allow Spain to make a comeback but looked a depleted version of himself mostly through the second half. The missed chance certainly had taken a beating on his confidence and he couldn't maneuver the ball the way he would have desired.

#4 Forward

Tim Cahill (Australia)(L) and Diego Costa (Spain)(R)

Best Forward- Tim Cahill (Australia)

Cahill walks away with this award simply because of the manner in which the goal was scored.

It was never easy for the Socceroos to face a confident unit in The Netherlands and Arjen Robben showed it when he scored his third goal of the tournament. When everybody would have thought that it would have been game over for the aussies, Cahill just seconds later brought them into the game with a peach of a volley.

The goal gave the Socceroos the confidence to keep fighting. Though they lost a close game but they won many hearts and Cahill’s goal gave them the momentum to play good game of football and leave with fond memories.
