Although there were not many big matches today across Europe, we still witnessed some great matches, which featured some incredible moments of skill and composure on display in front of goal. With teams like Barcelona and Bayern Munich in action, there sure was a lot that one could have expected in terms of goalmouth action and we were not left disappointed.Honourable mention: Well as long as Xabi Alonso keeps trying these, we’ll have to include him. Here are the top 5 goals of the day:
#5 Ross Wallace for Burnley against Leicester City
Burnley were looking to equalize late in their game against Leicester City, and they got it through this peach of a free kick from Ross Wallace in the 95th minute.
Talk about making an impact!
#4 Adam Lallana for Liverpool vs West Bromwich Albion
It is always nice to score for the first time your new club in the league, and if it is in this fashion, then why not! Adam Lallana opened the scoring for Liverpool against West Bromwich Albion, where he dummied defenders, exchanged a one-two with Jordan Henderson, before he slid the ball past the goalkeeper into the far corner.
#3 Andre Gomes for Valencia against Atletico Madrid
In what was a clash between teams near the top of the La Liga table, Valencia continued their great start to the season with a 3-1 win over defending champions Atletico Madrid.
Their best goal of the game was scored by Andre Gomes, who ran onto a backheel pass from Paco Alcacer, dummied Miranda, and then showed a burst of pace to go past the defense, following which he applied an emphatic finish.
#2 Lionel Messi for Barcelona against Rayo Vallecano
This goal from Lionel Messi sees him need only two more to equal the all-time highest goal scorer spot in La Liga history with Telmo Zarra.
Against Zaragoza, he broke the deadlock by running onto a clearance/ pass from Gerard Pique, head the ball down to control it and bring it into his path, and then fighting off the defender to finish with aplomb.
#1 Robert Lewandowski - Bayern Munich against Hannover
What made this goal the top goal of the day, was that pass from Xherdan Shaqiri from inside his own half, and the anticipation that was shown by Robert Lewandowski to make that run that caught the defense unawares.
Of course, the finish was pretty neat, but then Lewandowski is one of the most lethal finishers in world football, so there wasn’t much there to doubt.
