And their best player Rafael Nadal signed off in style as they then annihilated the Roger Federer-led OBI UAE Royals 30-19.Here, we bring you some of the best moments while the Indian Aces were in action.
#1 Nadal and Bopanna blaze through
Rafael Nadal and Rohan Bopanna had an easy outing against the Mavericks pair of Roger-Vasselin and Treat Huey, with Richard Gasquet not playing. The Aces’ pair won 6-4 in just 23 minutes.
#2 Nadal fights the charge with a trademark sprint
Nadal, who was pumped up for the Delhi leg, faced off against Edouard Roger-Vasselin of the Manila Mavericks in the singles.
Although Roger-Vasselin did put up a good show to last 33 minutes against the Spaniard, the former No. 1 prevailed 6-4. The Mavericks likely rued the absence of Milos Raonic who had defeated Nadal in an extremely tight encounter in the previous leg at Manila.
#3 Radwanska\'s sweetly timed forehand
The Indian Aces received a major boost as fifth seeded Agnieszka Radwanska, who won the WTA Finals earlier this year, replaced 27th-ranked Samantha Stosur.
Radwanska had an easy tie against 106th ranked Gajdosova, who was cleaned up 6-1 by the Polish player in 17 minutes for the shortest set of the day.
#4 Nadal\'s signature celebration
Prior to the New Delhi leg, Nadal was 3-1 in the IPTL, losing his last singlels game to the Philippine Mavericks' Milos Raonic. But he put the shock loss behind him to win all his sets in singles and doubles in both contests of the Delhi leg he participated in.
In the singles, Nadal defeated the Mavericks’ Edouard Roger-Vasselin and then Roger Federer of the UAE Royals, and partnered Rohan Bopanna to win both doubles’ sets. Against the Warriors, Nadal opted not to play, with the Aces losing singles and doubles in the process.
#5 The team applauds the \'Magician\'
The Indian Aces players stand in unison and applaud their legend and coach Fabrice Santoro who defeated Thomas Enqvist of the Legendari Japan Warriors 6-3 with some brilliant footwork.
#6 Sania wishes Radwanska luck
Sania Mirza and Indian Aces coach and legend Fabrice Santoro shared a light-hearted moment as the former wished teammate Agnieszka Radwanska ahead of her singles’ tie.
Radwanska won comfortably against Kurumi Nara of the Japan Warriors, beating her 6-2.
#7 Team huddle!
This was arguably one of the best pictures of the tournament.
The victorious Indian Aces huddled together for a selfie after steamrolling the Philippine Mavericks, with Rafael Nadal heading the charge for the newly invigorated team.
#8 \'Fedal\' comes to the party!
Both greats found plenty of support at New Delhi, but it was Nadal who defeated Federer 6-5. Federer was rusty given he landed only the morning of the match and was short of practice, but he later said the format of the IPTL was great fun, as did his longtime rival and co-former World No. 1 Rafael Nadal.
#9 Two legends on court
Fedal in high spirits!
Rafael Nadal was on the victorious side in both the singles and doubles but Federer, who had played for Indian Aces last season but was now with the UAE Royals, made the day for many fans with his mere appearance. The two played a scintillating set to cap the evening.
#10 Sania and Nadal high-five!
Rafael Nadal and Sania Mirza of the Indian Aces shared a light moment after Mirza won her mixed doubles tie, paired with Rohan Bopanna. After an initial hiccup, Mirza has continued the roaring form she showed with Martina Hingis to reach No. 1 in the women’s doubles rankings earlier this year.
