Ever since Manchester City got taken over by the Abu Dhabi United Group, they have become on of the most feared teams in England and Europe. Since then, they have taken their game to another level, bought a whole lot of world class players and hired world class managers.Manchester City since then have won the Premier League twice, the FA Cup, the League Cup and also the FA Community Shield once. They have clearly made their mark in world football since their takeover. The Citizens have bought in over 56 players since then and have spent around 671 million Euros on them. They made their point clear that they wanted to become one of the best clubs in the world and they bought in a lot of world class and rising stars but not all of them managed to make it big at City and they were forced to leave and they have never performed the same after that. Here is a list of player who's careers have been ruined after joining Manchester City:
#1 J
Before joining Manchester City, Jo was one of the brightest talents and was on course to become one of the best strikers in the world. He was a star man for he previous two clubs, Corinthians and CSKA Moscow.
When he joined City for 19 million Euros a lot was expected out of him but he never performed like his pervious days. He was loaned to Everton for two consecutive seasons and then off for another spell to Galatasaray. All of his loan spells were a big failure.
After his move away from Russia he was never able to establish himself in any team. Jo was destined to become a future Brazilian great but after his move to City he was never able to rediscover his form.
#2 Robinho
Robinho was one of the first players Manchester City bought after they got taken over by Abu Dhabi United Group. They paid an amount of 42 million Euros on the last day of the transfer window to secure his services. He had a very good first season with The Citizens ending up as their top scorer with 14 goals.
Recurring injuries meant he could not make much of an impact in the following season. The Brazilian was eventually sold to Italian giants AC Milan.
#3 Shawn Wright-Phillips
The winger started his senior career at Manchester City before making a big money move to Chelsea. At Chelsea, he initially struggled to find his form in the first season but the following next two seasons he was in the best form of his career as he helped Chelsea win the Premier League, League Cup, FA Cup and the Community Shield.
On his return to Manchester City, a lot of things were expected from him. Unfortunately, He could only live up to the expectations during his first season back in Manchester.
Chances were limited as Adam Johnson was signed in a big money move. Wright-Phillips was eventually sold to Queens Park Rangers where he was far from his best and often used as a substitute.
#4 Emmanuel Adebayor
The Togo international was bought to Arsenal to take Thierry Henry place and he did so wonderfully scoring more than 50 goals in 104 appearances over a span of four years. He then moved to Manchester City for 25 million Euros. He was exceptional in his first season scoring 14 goals in 24 appearances.
The next season, following the arrival of Dzeko, Tevez and Balotelli his chances in the senior squad were limited as he just made eight appearances that season. He then had two loan spells at Real Madrid and Tottenham, where he was given a fair chance to play.
His form was affected after Mancini lost faith in him. Eventually, he forced his way out of the club with a permanent move to Tottenham.
#5 Scott Sinclair
Scott Sinclair was instrumental in helping Swansea City get back to the Premier League. He scored 22 goals that season and also scored two hat-tricks in the play-offs against Reading.
In his first season in the Premier League, Sinclair really stepped up his game and was one of the most feared attackers in the League at that time. He was key that season for The Swans as they finished 11th that season, better than what anyone expected them to do. While lot of clubs were after his signature, he decided to move to Manchester City on deadline day.
He started a few games but never performed as expected and after that he became a bench warmer. The next season he joined West Bromwich Albion on loan. He struggled there too – mostly playing for the reserve team. We haven’t seen him regain his top form since his move to Manchester.
