This week NXT was graced by a Samoa Joe Vs Kevin Owens match, a Finn Balor video package, the Realest Guys In the Room and ‘The Nature Girl’ Charlotte. All in all, it was an episode with some NXT’s MVP’s being present in all their glory. It wasn’t just a decent show, it did enough for character development and looked set to lay out the foundation for the very near future, one which involves some major attention on the Women’s division.Mostly we got a good show on free television from the WWE.Here are the 5 Points to Note from this weeks broadcast of NXT-
#1 None Better
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
Nobody, major emphasis on the nobody, has been booked better than Kevin Owens this year. He has been booked so well since he made his debut at Takeover- R Evolution. He stands tall right there with the likes of, maybe, Brock Lesnar. His matches have so much to focus on.
Whether it is the fighting, the psychology, the various moves in his arsenal- Owens has just stood out and you understand, you just get it why Stone Cold Steve Austin is so high on this talent to succeed. His match with Samoa Joe was just the type of main event you expect from a show like NXT but it is something that can be put anywhere in Raw, Smackdown or PPV. It was that good.
It was good to see Owens struggling, as we havent seen him do that so much.
But how great it was to see these two men just want to tear each other apart?!
#2 As Real As Real Gets
The Enzo Amore- Big Cass team is a major, major hit. It’s a blockbuster in NXT. These guys are super OVER. The pop they get, the catchphrases they dole out and the fact that the audience remembers each and every single, solitary word is an achievement in itself.
These two aren’t as great in the ring as they are on the mic but each week sees them improving their in-ring game.
The interesting part is that despite being jeered in the earlier part of her alliance with Amore- Cass, Carmella is a sure- shot babyface now.
#3 The Finn Balor story
Once upon a time on a Stone Cold podcast, Triple H talked about how tough it is in this day and age to book a babyface. If you see NXT, you don’t feel that difficulty. They’ve seamlessly given us Sami Zayn.
And now, they are giving us Finn Balor, who is rumored to win the NXT title from Kevin Owens. And to make that work they had to go beyond his entrance and they’ve done it this week. The video shows Balor uttering his real name, talking about his parents and how his love for pro- wrestling began. It’s evocative and it actually did so well in delving more into the human aspect of his gimmick.
#4 Expanding your territory
For the second week in a row, there was an indy talent in the women’s division in NXT introducing herself with a match against an MVP. Charlotte faced a woman who’s known as K.C Cassidy.
She did not get much offence in the match and Charlotte made quick work of her but it seems we may see more of her after the Big 4 from NXT make their transition to the main roster. Hopefully, they make it in quick succession. If they are working so well on NXT, they can co- exist on the main roster as well.
This sets the platform for more female wrestlers to make their presence felt. It’s great to see them focus on creating and having wrestlers instead of just pretty faces.
#5 Samoa Joe promo
Samoa Joe is a welcome addition to NXT but if there was anybody who thought otherwise may have been subjected to a change of heart after his backstage promo before the main event. It set in motion everything that he promised will happen. And it laid the foundation for what turned out to be a splendid match.
He made Owens struggle, something that nobody has been able to do.
He’s a great addition to the NXT roster. And this feud between Owens and Joe is only set to escalate.
