Tennis matches not only offer offer excellent action in terms of the game, but also provide some of the most well-turned out men and women in their wide assortment of sporting gear.Unfortunately, that is not always the case, as evidenced by the recent Sony Open in Miami when both of the finalists in the men's draw wore rather dull outfits, quite ironically, for an event in the Sunshine State.A lot of the top stars have had their fair share of faults and double-faults in the wardrobe department. Here's part one of some of the absolute worst.
#1 Novak Djokovic
As we were mentioning above, this was the rather drab outfit Djokovic sported through the Miami Masters.
#2 Rafael Nadal
What Novak does, Rafa almost always tries to emulate. And so it was in the clothing department too at Miami.
#3 Andre Agassi
Andre ended up winning many Grand Slams, but when he first appeared on the scene, he did not really have the best fashion sense. Here he is wearing Denim along with lycra cycling shorts! And yes, that famous headband!
#4 Serena Williams
Serena sometimes has looks that can kill. She once came out for the US Open in this mean 'biker' look replete with black jacket, long boots and bandana. Bizarre!
#5 Anne White
Rest assured, she did not earn her surname because of this look. Anne sported this 'stick of chalk look' once and explained it by saying - "I had no idea it would be so controversial, it wasn’t my intention, as I took my tracksuit off, for anyone to spill their strawberries and cream."
#6 Dominik Hrbaty
Yes, that is a male player, with windows on the back of his shirt. Dominik Hrbaty assumed it was a good idea to turn up for the 2005 US Open in this fashion. Either he got mugged wearing that shirt, or he desperately needed some air conditioning!
#7 Tatiana Golovin
The French belle turned up for Wimbledon in this rather bold look and defended herself saying - "They say that red is the colour that proves you are strong, and that you are confident, so I’m happy with my knickers." But at Wimbledon?
#8 Serena Williams
Serena again, this time at Wimbledon. This is an outfit that can best be described as half trenchcoat, half bathrobe. As always, Serena didn't shy away from explaining just why she wore what she did - "I just love coats and I’m always buying them. I don’t know why as I live in Florida – it just doesn’t add up."
Yes, just doesn't!
#9 Gussie Moran
Gertrude 'Gussie' Moran shocked the mid-century tennis world when she took to Wimbledon in this short skirt (for the times). She was accused of "putting sin and vulgarity into tennis".
If you're wondering what her sin was - wearing a pair of lace-trimmed knickers at Wimbledon in 1949.
#10 Venus Williams
The elder sister makes her first of many appearances on this collection, rounding off Part I. Venus was roundly criticised for this extremely controversial outfit. Every time she hit the ball, viewers were rather distracted, from the actual action.
