In Brock’s career, he has been in a handful of SumerSlam matches, but they have spawned moments that would be remembered forever. As Lesnar is going to be facing ‘The Phenom’ in a very explosive rematch, let us take a look at his moments from SummerSlam that left a long lasting picture in the minds of the fans.
#3 Putting on a potential match of the year aganist CM Punk
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
In a dream match of sorts, two Paul Heyman guys slugged it out against one and another and put on a barnburner of a match, that lived up to the hype and expectation that surrounded it.
The build-up was amazing as Paul Heyman was involved in a storyline that was tailor-made for him to hype. There was doubt surrounding the match and the way it would turn out to be, but all doubt was put to rest when both Punk and Lesnar battled it out in one of the matches of the year.
A no-DQ stipulation added to the chaos and the match was paced perfectly with some violent spots and Lesnar being at his destructive best. He came out on top with an F5 on the steel chair and started going on a demolition streak that would culminate in him going to conquer the streak and the title in the coming years.
Seeing Brock perform is a rare spectacle these days and him against Punk was always going to be a treat to watch, add in Heyman to the mix and you have a classic in hand.
It’s a shame that the WWE didn‘t continue the feud but for what it was, it surely gave Brock the status of being the wrecking ball after his losses against The Game and Cena in his previous matches.
#2 Breakout moment against The Rock
After Brock Lesner debuted in 2002, it was pretty evident that he was primed for big things and one day would be the cornerstone of the WWE. Everyone knew he would go to the top, but he reached there earlier than expected.
In June 2002, Lesner defeated Rob Van Dam to win the King Of The Ring tournament that guaranteed a world championship shot against The Rock. After feuding with Hulk Hogan and absolutely atomising Hogan, he moved on to the champion. The showdown was set and Lesnar was going to face Rock at SummerSlam 2002 for the Undisputed title.
He proved to be the breakout star of the night by putting in an impressive performance and crashing the biggest party of the summer for the Rock by defeating him.
At that time, he became the youngest WWE champion at 25 and also the quickest since a debut. The fans too were electric that night and fully embraced the change of titles and a new talent on the block.
#1 16 suplexes- the birth of suplex city
This night would always be remembered and cherished for the beatdown of John Cena. No one ever expected this match to end up as one sided as it did.
At first it was thought that Super Cena would once again beat the odds and come back at the last moment to pick up the win but thank god, that wasn’t the case. Although the match wasn’t a classic in any right, Brock hitting sixteen german suplexes on Cena was a treat to watch.
It was shocking and pleasing at the same time to see the franchise player of the WWE getting beaten hands down without the usual booking that Cena is accustomed to. Lesnar came out as a complete destroyer and it all of a sudden justified the streak been broken.
The 16 suplexes gave birth to suplex city and it would become one of those chants that would grow. The sheer domination by Lesnar reinstated the fact how dominant an athlete Brock really is and that is a moment never to be forgotten, so much so that now, the fans count the number of suplexes Brock performs, which is pure fun even though the match ends up being one-sided.
