SummerSlam main event saw one of the most vicious beatings in recent history when Brock Lesnar dismantled John Cena with one German Suplex at a time. The beast rounded off his domination with the WWE Championship win and stamped his place as the face of Vince McMahons promotion.Hunter presented Lesnar with the new championship with Network logo suggesting that the one would be here to stay for some time. There is a lot of criticism on the creative team for having the title on a potential part timer like Lesnar but now that he is the champion, there is a need to find a fitting challenger for him.He is not going to be a champion that would defend every week, but here is a look at the possible opponents for Lesnar when he chooses the time and place to put the title on the line.
#5 The Rock
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
WWE wants mainstream? Well there is nothing more mainstream than Rock vs. Brock Lesnar for the WWE championship.
Rock is one of those superstars who went from WWE to have an immensely successful career elsewhere. Lesnar’s story is not much different and a clash between these two at any pay-per-view would result in huge crowds.
The Brahma bull is far away from being able to compete at the moment but the original plan was for him to face Lesnar at this year’s WrestleMania. Some unfortunate events took that possibility away but the idea is still in everyone’s mind.
WWE network could get the biggest exposure if these two lock horns, but then again for a regular fan this would just be a match between two part timers who is well past their prime.
#4 Cesaro
This is a long shot, a very long shot but this might be the only way in which WWE could breathe some life into the Swiss Superman who is just a tiny poke away from becoming another version of Damien Sandow.
Cesaro being a former (or present for that matter) Paul Heyman guy would be the backstory of the feud.
After what Lesnar did to Cena, a match with Cesaro would only come out looking better since he is more technically equipped than the Cenation leader.
The problem with this angle however would be the marketing in mainstream level. If the match happens at Raw, it wouldn’t be a problem but Cesaro and Lesnar headlining a pay-per-view is bad for business now that the company is pushing hard to attract more subscribers towards the WWE Network.
#3 Daniel Bryan
Good news broke out for the WWE fans right after SummerSlam which said that Daniel Bryan would be fit enough to wrestle as early as Survivor Series.
It is still two months away but having a returning match against Lesnar would just skyrocket the buy rates.
Bryan would be coming off from a lengthy injury lay off right into the ring with a man who almost ended the careers of John Cena and Undertaker.
There wouldn’t be a more compelling story than this for the fans to witness for the flying goat’s return. Lesnar being close with the Authority to a certain extent would allow Bryan to resume his friction with Triple H when Lesnar will have to move back to his hibernation state.
#2 Roman Reigns
Roman Reigns one of those young superstars in the roster who is destined to main event WrestleMania in the future. The company is so high on him that he has been projected as a succeeded of John Cena by a majority of the fans.
Reigns have all the things he needs to reach that level and more. The creative has been slowly steering him into the main event direction and could take a big leap by making him a No.1 contender.
Calling back, Orton was supposed to be the Authority’s choice to face Cena before Brock Lesnar snatched the opportunity. Now that Reigns took Orton out and Lesnar won the title, Reigns is more than eligible to have a title shot.
This would simply be the biggest match of Reigns’ career if it happens and even if he loses, the world will know that WWE has a new star in the making.
#1 John Cena
A man who lives by the motto of never giving up, a man who has inspired millions across the world with his attitude, a man who carried the company on his shoulder for more than a decade, a man who is an idol for many children, and if you think that this man would just go hide somewhere after one brutal beating, it’s time to think again.
The Cena – Lesnar story is far from being over and the match at SummerSlam only made it more compelling.
After that beating, Cena would be more eager to prove a point while the cockiness of Lesnar would be too much to handle.
This angle is too good to conclude after just one match and the next time these two gets in the ring, its going to be a different Cena, A more dark and intense one, a one that most fans have been waiting for a long long time.
