The fourth week of Star Sports Pro Kabaddi saw the table take shape and give indications as to which teams will make it to the semi-finals of the league. The week was a bad one for former Champions Jaipur Pink Panthers who struggled on home turf, before eventually bowing out of the competition.U Mumba and Patna Pirates continued their surge at the top of the table as Bengal Warriors and Puneri Paltan closed in on a semi-final spot. The continuous protection offered by defenders helps raiders go and get more points for their particlular teams, just like how the continous protection offered by Castrol Activ’s Actibonds helps protect the engine when it is off.In this crucial week in Pro Kabaddi season three, we take a look at the top five defenders who made the difference.
#1 Sandeep Narwal (Patna Pirates)
The Patna Pirates defender once again makes it to the list of the top defenders after having a brilliant week for his team, who tightened their grip on a spot in the semi-finals. Sandeep Narwal starred for the Pirates in their wins over the Jaipur Pink Panthers and Dabang Delhi.
Narwal scored 14 tackle points in those two games as Patna sealed a top-two finish in the league. Sandeep was Patna’s lone ranger in defence as his defensive displays proved to be the difference between the Pirates and their opponents in the end.
#2 Manjeet Chhillar (Puneri Paltan)
Another regular in this list is Puneri Paltan skipper Manjeet Chhillar. Having sounded out a warning to the Telugu Titans before the game, the determined Puneri Paltan defender backed his words with performance on the mat as he scored eight tackle points in their win over the Titans.
Manjeet Chhillar only managed two tackle points against the Bengaluru Bulls, but his captaincy was top notch and helped Puneri Paltan move into the semi-final sports.
#3 Sandeep Dhull (Dabang Delhi)
The shining light in an otherwise dark Dabang Delhi season, Sandeep Dhull has been performing outstandingly for the team lately. Delhi managed a draw against the Jaipur Pink Panthers where Sandeep Dhull scored a high five in a low scoring game.
He gave opposition raiders plenty of problems during Dabang Delhi’s defeats to Patna Pirates and Telugu Titans and scored seven tackle points in those two games. So, for his consistent displays in a weak Dabang Delhi side, Dhull deserves a place in the top five defenders of week four.
#4 Fazel Atrachali (U Mumba)
U Mumba’s Fazel Atrachali has rose to prominence this season and now is pretty much an integral part of U Mumba’s starting seven. Keeping Surender Nada on the bench requires some doing, but Fazel Arachali has been consistently delivering match winning performances for the defending Champions.
Fazel has scored 13 tackle points in U Mumba’s three games in the fourth week of Pro Kabaddi. Also a fan favourite, Fazel was received warmly during U the team’s win over the Jaipur Pink Panthers in Mumbai as he continued to impress in U Mumba colours.
#5 Surjeet (Puneri Paltan)
The services player has been a revelation for Puneri Paltan. The Paltan struggled in his absence when Surjeet was away with the Indian team and his return saw them string together wins at the best possible time in the competition.
Surjeet scored eleven tackle points in two games for the Puneri Paltan who won both those games. He has the best tackles per match ratio in the league and could prove to be Pune’s trump card in the business end of the season
