The Billion Dollar Princess returned to wrestle after 10 years. The biggest WWE show of the summer hasn’t really had a lot of Divas matches to boast of in its 27-year history. As it enters its 28th edition, things look like it could take a turn.Last year it featured two matches, both of which are featured on this list. But mostly Divas are mostly managers or embroiled in a tag match or take part in very uninteresting battle royales. But rest assured, when given the kind of attention it deserves, the divas don’t disappoint. Last year was a major example. Here are the top 5 Divas matches to take place at SummerSlam

#5 Tag team match from 2001

Woman of the year 2001.

New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE

This isn’t the most memorable women’s match ever. Not even one bit but this match is perhaps testament to how popular Lita was at the time.

She got pops equivalent to the biggest stars then like The Rock and Stone Cold. The year was 2001 and Molly Holly and Jacqueline were stuck in a handicap match against Stacy Keibler, Torrie Wilson and Ivory. Lita was attacked backstage and hence wasn’t present to compete.

But all of that changed. She limped to the ring, delivered a Twist of Fate to Ivory, caused the pin for the win. This was part of The Alliance’s (representing WCW) feud with The World Wrestling Federation.

#4 Alicia Fox vs Melina

She’s back!

Alicia Fox is a way better performer now than she was then. This match came to fruition when Fox was blabbering on and on about her supremacy.

Melina returned after many months to claim the Divas Championship. It was a spectacular moment and she was given a hero’s welcome. It all led to a match at Summerslam which was described as a match between a young champion and a veteran.

The match isn’t a classic, but it’s certainly one of the better divas matches to be held at Summerslam

#3 AJ Lee Vs Paige

Lee and Paige had their best match at Summerslam

They were better teammates than opponents and this match got quite overpowered by the second Divas match of the night.

But this still was one of the better Divas title matches in a long, long time. Paige defeated AJ Lee to win the championship for a second time on her 22nd birthday. This match had the divas in a role reversal as Lee played babyface and Paige a heel.

They weren’t given a lot of time, but they made the most of it. The ending moment of the match, where the Black Widow was reversed into a ‘ Rampaige’ was very well done.

#2 Stephanie McMahon vs Brie Bella

Brie Bella during her match against McMahon

Nobody expected it to be a technical classic, but it was a classic nonetheless. These two had quite a dramatic match.

This was special because McMahon laced up her boots after a gap of 10 years. Also, Ronda Rousey was in attendance as part of the Four Horsewomen. And despite everything that was expected, Nikki Bella’s heel turn was very well executed.

So much so that it was one of the best heel turns of the year. Stephanie McMahon continued her tradition of delivering the best in every match that she’s ever been a part of.

#1 Alundra Blayze vs Bull Nakano

An instant classic

This was a match between two of the best wrestlers in the world. The word ‘Diva’ is too unrelatable in this case. These two were professional wrestlers.

They not only had the best women’s match at SummerSlam, they had one of the best matches at Summerslam, ever.

Bull Nakano is one of the most memorable performers to be a part of WWE. Alundra Blayze has been one of the best and one of the most controversial wrestlers in the wrestling business.

Put them in a match and you get a classic. Between them, the title changed hands thrice. Two for Blayze and once for Nakano. Blayze won at Summerslam with a German Suplex. But this match is more about everything that happened in between, and of course, it was all riveting action.
