The art of storytelling has always been an integral part of professional wrestling. The storylines are the sugar coating over the hard hitting in ring action and it clearly makes things more interesting since two men are fighting for a reason.Over the years, WWE has managed to put up some entertaining ones and some forgettable ones involving many wrestlers. So since it is an integral part of being a wrestling fan to get invests in the storylines, here is a series which takes a look at the best storylines that each superstar has had.And we start off the series with none other than the cerebral Assassin Triple H, since he is one of the most evolved wrestlers in the company.
#5 Love Triangle, against Kurt Angle- 2000
Former WWE writer buries Judgment Day HERE
Love is always something that found its feet in WWE, there has been many storylines with the triangle love story as its base but when Hunter and Kurt Angle showed immense chemistry while pulling it off, it became a huge success.
It started when Triple H grew sick of Angle getting cozy with Stephanie McMahon. Just like any ordinary husband would do, Hunter would go off limits to keep Angle in his place.
This lead to a to and fro battle between the two with Stephanie helping out her husband when he needed the most. The highlight of the storyline however was the matches that these two had and how vulnerable Stephanie was projected to be.
#4 The Authority Storyline, against Daniel Bryan 2013-14
Hunter decided to recycle the success story of the Authority against the Rebel angle recently as he stepped into the ring to present as a great foe for Daniel Bryan.
Hunter did everything in his power to pull down Daniel Bryan and stamping him as a B+ player. And the angle was so good that the fans were getting frustrated with Triple H which made them hate him more.
They were firmly behind their hero while everything that the Authority did was wrong. The feud fell well in spot thanks to the heel brilliance of Triple H and the underdog status of Bryan. It reached its epitome at WrestleMania after almost 8 months when Bryan defeated Triple H to earn a spot in the main event of the granddaddy of them all.
WWE is still running a spinoff of the actual storyline now and it wouldn’t be a surprise if we get to see another match between Bryan and Triple H.
#3 Triple H made you, against Batista and Orton- 2005
Triple H devised the Evolution to carry the past, present and the future of the company. The stable in its heel ways was so successful that everyone was praising Hunter for his leadership and guidance.
But the problem when having young talent under you is that once they mature, they are going to surpass you. Orton was the first that went against Hunter when he won the title from Chris Benoit. After Hunter put Orton into bed, Batista rose up.
It was a classic situation of the students having the better off their master as Hunter was going on saying that he made those two. As it came off on the back of a success story like Evolution WWE found a lot of momentum in the angle as well.
the possibility of this one happening again can’t be ignored now as the WWE has a potential vacant title and a reunited evolution.
#2 I married your daughter, Against Vince McMahon- 1999
Back in 1999, Hunter was having a main event push and had the WWE title with him. He was in a constant feud with Vince McMahon and WWE managed to make good use of the angle with a great storyline.
Vince was busy with the preparations for his daughter’s marriage when Hunter kidnapped Stephanie, drugged her and married her.
Anyone who would’ve had a daughter would’ve felt the pain that McMahon had at that time. it was a well-executed story that hit all the right places. Then after sometime WWE went a level deeper with the angle when they let Stephanie turn against her own father in favor of her new husband.
This was the initiation of the McMahon-Helmsley era which would’ve been a bigger success if it wasn’t for the injury that Triple H had at that time.
#1 Who is the Best, against Shawn Michaels 2002
It’s a well-known fact that Hunter and Michaels are best friends, and when WWE decided to add a twist to the relationship, what they got was a thrilling storyline.
The angle started when Hunter turned heel by giving a pedigree to Shawn Michaels in a DX reunion. The idea of a friend turning made it look more meaningful to the fans and Hunter immediately had a lot of heat for his actions.
The two would then embark on a series of matches to know who the best man was as Hunter was hell bound to prove that Michaels was weak. The two had street fights and three stages of hell matches while Elimination chamber match and other perks here and there was also there.
Chemistry that these two had in the ring and the history they had puts this one among the best storylines that Hunter was part of.
