#1 2012- Andy Murray vs Novak Djokovic

Novak Djokovic was the defending champion heading into 2012 US Open and came against British number one Andy Murray in the final. It took five sets and four hours and sixteen minutes for Murray to overcame the Serb and take his first Grand Slam victory.

Murray claimed the first two sets 7-6 (12-10) and 7-5 before Djokovic pegged back in the third and fourth sets to take the final into a deciding fifth set. Murray showed great composure to not panic after losing two sets straight to grab the fifth set 6-2 to win the US Open.

7–6(12–10), 7–5, 2–6, 3–6, 6–2 was the final score with which Murray became the first British man since Fred Perry, winner of the US Open in 1936, to win a Grand Slam championship.

Roger Federer came into the US Open seeking his sixth consecutive title. He reached the final high on confidence after beating Djokovic in straight sets. His opponent, Juan Martin del Potro was in blistering form having beaten Rafael Nadal in straight sets (6-2, 6-2, 6-2). After winning alternate sets, the match was poised at two sets all. Del Potro stepped up to take the last set 6-2 and win his first Grand Slam.

#3 1995- Andre Agassi vs Pete Sampras

The 1995 US Open final saw a rematch of the 1995 Australian Open final. Agassi had got the better of his fellow American in Melbourne and was the number one seed heading into the last Grand Slam of the year. However, the tables were turned at Flushing Meadows with Pete Sampras prevailing in four sets (6–4, 6–3, 4–6, 7–5). It was a classis encounter, one that highlighted their great rivalry which lasted for over ten years.

#4 1988- Mats Wilander vs Ivan Lendl

The 1988 final was the longest final in the history of the US Open, clocking in at four hours and fifty-four minutes. Mats Wilander defeated Ivan Lendl in five sets (6–4, 4–6, 6–3, 5–7, 6–4) to take the title and become world number one. Lendl had defeated Andre Agassi in the semi-final and seemed destined to win his fourth US Open in a row but was halted by a determined Wilander who won his third Grand Slam in the year.

#5 1980- John McEnroe vs Bjorn Borg

John McEnroe and Bjorn Borg were involved in one of the greatest US Open final of all times. Their contrasting styles of play were always an highlight of their rivalry. The final went the distance after McEnroe won the first two sets 7–6(7–4) and 6–1 but lost the following two 6–7(5–7) and 5–7. Defending champion McEnroe won the decider 6–4 to exert revenge for his 1980 Wimbledon loss to Borg.
