#11 Honorable Mention: The awards in his pocket
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
Sheamus made his big WWE debut back in 2009. Ever since, Sheamus has been in and out of the main event scene and has won numerous awards.
He was ranked 5th in the top 500 Wrestlers list of PWI back in 2012 and he was only outclassed by Daniel Bryan, John Cena, Bobby Roode and Edge.
He was awarded by the Wrestling Observer as well back in 2010 when they named him the most improved wrestler. Sheamus has four Slammys to his name in categories, Breakout star of the year (2009), Superstar in need of make-up (2010), Outstanding Achievement in Muppet Resemblance (2011), Feat of Strength (2012).
Okay, I just realized that the Slammys make no sense at all.
#10 The choir boy
Sheamus might not look like one now, but he was a choir boy back in school.
The Celtic Warrior, who had a pretty interesting childhood was pretty active during his study days. He was sent to the Scoil Caoimhin Primary and Coláiste Mhuire Secondary School during his childhood. There, Sheamus sang in the Palestrina Choir till he turned 13.
After that, his interest turned into physical sports such as Football and Rugby. All these later helped him on the longer run as well. Although it is easy to imagine Sheamus as a football or rugby player, think about the whole scene of him standing in a choir group and singing.
#9 A Liverpool fan and an IT technician
Growing up in Ireland, Sheamus cultivated a great love for Football (Or Soccer as they call it in the States).
He turned out to be a big fan of English Premier League side Liverpool and still supports them to the core. Seeing wrestling as another pass time for a young Sheamus, he used to be impressed by superstars like Bret Hart and Randy Savage.
Apart from this, Sheamus had a solid academic history as well. He gained a National diploma before going on to work as an IT technician. He, however, had no interest of using his diploma and went on to follow his passion (wrestling) later.
#8 Bodyguard for Bono and Larry Mullen of U2
Before making it into the professional wrestling business, Sheamus served as a bodyguard and a security guard.
His physique was what probably landed him a job as the Security guard in a night club. This soon paved the way for him to become the bodyguard of Bono and Larry Mullen of Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductees U2.
“Bono would be in all the time. I’d be standing there, making sure nobody spiked his drink, or try to steal his pint. It was a handy way to make a bit of wedge,” The Celtic Warrior said about his experience as a bodyguard for Bono.
#7 The Royal Rumble, MITB, WWE Championship and King of the Ring
A good portion of the WWE Universe might not categorize Sheamus as a successful superstar but statistically, he is stand out performer. He is one of only two superstars who have won the Royal Rumble, the Money in the Bank, the King of the Ring and the WWE championship.
He won the Royal Rumble back in 2012, King of the Ring in 2010, WWE Championship on four separate occasions including the one at 2015 Survivor Series and won the Money in the Bank in 2015.
Sheamus is just 37 years old now and clearly has a lot of years ahead of him. In case you were wondering, the other superstar with all these achievements in his resume is Edge.
#6 He debuted as a security guard
WWE tore a page off Sheamus’ real life when they made him come out as a security guard for his debut in the main roster. Though many recognize the ECW appearance as his WWE debut, he appeared on the main roster way before that.
Sheamus, along with Wade Barrett, appeared on the 13 November, 2006 Monday Night Raw episode as Security guards who were hired to take out D-Generation X. Sheamus ended up getting a pedigree from Triple H that night and three years later, he appeared in ECW as the Irish villain that wanted to take over the main event scene.
#5 The Johnny Depp fan and a dog lover
Just like all the humans out there, Sheamus also has his own favorites. He is a big fan of Johnny Depp and Robert Downey Jr. Sheamus enjoys the films of Tim Burton and is a big fan of the classic Ghostbusters.
When it comes to television, he watches Game of Thrones, Boardwalk Empire and other HBO series. Also, Sheamus is a big dog lover. He even had two dogs, an Old English sheepdog and an Australian Shepherds and thinks that dogs are smart and kind like humans.
He loves Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream and prefers ham and pineapple topping for his pizza.
#4 The Actress he wants to kiss on screen
Once, Sheamus was posed with a very difficult question.
He was asked about the Hollywood actress that he would love to kiss on-screen. Sheamus immediately came up with the name of Emma Stone, who was in the headlines that time thanks to Zombieland.
“The girl that was in Zombieland, Emma Stone. She seems like a lot of fun. She would have a good laugh and she seems down to earth. That is what you really want; you definitely want someone that you’d enjoy being around. I think Emma Stone would be the one,” Sheamus said.
Well, we cannot blame the guy can we?
#3 His career almost ended at one point
Before coming into WWE, Sheamus did spend some quality time in the European wrestling scene. He made his official debut back in 2002 and came to develop a reputation.
The journey saw a big twist at one point when Sheamus suffered a deadly neck injury. The injury happened when Sheamus botched a hip toss and this kept him out of action for almost two years.
“It came about from a freak accident. I caught my foot before taking a hip toss and my then 18st bodyweight came right down on my neck. I couldn't feel my hands or legs for what seemed like an eternity after. I thought I was done,” Sheamus said during an interview.
#2 He created his character
The time off due to the injury mentioned in the last slide was well utilized by Sheamus.
He decided that it was time to call off the stereotype Irish gimmicks that projected wrestlers as Leprechauns and lucky charms. Instead, Sheamus went on to take the Irish warrior character.
He even created a symbol for him by merging the Celtic Cross and the Celtic War Sword that he called the Crossos.
He says that is the metaphoric illustration of his indigenous origins. The Crossos and the traits of the character he created were put to great use during his time in WWE and the creative team did not have much work to do to make him look fierce.
#1 How Bret Hart Changed his life
Not many might know it, but Bret Hart played a big role in the career of Sheamus.
In fact, Bret was perhaps the biggest turning point for Sheamus. Back during his teenage, Sheamus had a passion for wrestling and knew that it was what he wanted. But the young guy did not know which way to travel until he met Bret.
He met Bret in 2002 and shared his desire to become a wrestler. Brett soon advised Sheamus to train under Larry Sharpe at the monster factory. The factory had some notable alumni like Big Show, Bam Bam Bigelow and Raven, and it worked out for Sheamus as well.
The training went smooth for Sheamus and his career took off from there.
