When the Wyatt family debuted on the main roster not too long ago, they were considered to be the hottest commodity in the WWE. With the Shield and the Wyatts going at each other’s throats, big things were planned and expected of the eerie group.Soon, the group became the most dominant force in the company, and Bray Wyatt was being groomed for a big push. However, couple of years later, the Wyatts are stuck in the same place, and Bray’s momentum has been completely halted. This past Sunday, WWE rolled out with the Hell in a Cell PPV, as Bray Wyatt took on Roman Reigns. Everything wrong about how WWE’s creative team has been booking the Wyatt family was highlighted during the PPV.In this article, we give you three reasons why the Wyatts, and especially Bray Wyatt haven’t been able to break the proverbial glass ceiling, although they possess all the potential in the world to do so.
#1 Inconsistent storylines
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
Last year, Bray Wyatt was considered to be the next big thing in the WWE. However, with the creative toying around with Wyatt’s opponents, it only hindered Wyatt’s growth in the organization. While Bray’s feud with Cena was seen as his opportunity to cement his claim as one of the top talent in the company, the way he was booked, along with the entire Wyatt family was questionable to say the least.
This year’s WrestleMania saw Bray taking on the Undertaker without much build up. While the Undertaker won that encounter, it took months for WWE to rekindle that feud, which happened during the HIAC PPV.
While WWE has been notorious for questioning the intelligence of the fans, and completely ignoring previous feuds, the fact that the creative team went back to Bray feuding with the Undertaker doesn’t make much sense, if at all.
If that wasn’t enough, WWE earlier split the Wyatts, to concentrate on Bray’s singles career. However, during this time, Erick and Harper fought each other, and then teamed up, and joined Bray Wyatt again without much explanation.
#2 No character development
There was a time when the organization focused on building and developing the characters, instead of pushing them from one feud to another. The Wyatts, if booked right, have the potential to become the most dominant faction in the company’s history.
However, the WWE hasn’t been able to give the Wyatts the time or the storyline that would help them grow.
One incident which would highlight WWE’s inability to focus on the characters was during an episode of RAW couple of weeks ago, when Erick Rowan was substituted for Luke Harper. While Rowan has been on the shelf for a while, the WWE didn’t even bother to announce Rowan’s return, and he became just another filler.
The management, and especially the creative team need to change their perception about why the fans care about the superstars. WWE was always accused of forgetting the past, and this only hurts the superstars.
#3 Eventual losses to the opponents
While the fans claim that the win – loss record doesn’t matter in professional wrestling, mainly because everything is scripted (which is true to a certain extent), you cannot take someone seriously who ends up losing most of their matches. Unfortunately, the Wyatts have become the team that people get into a feud with, if the creative has nothing else for them.
While it is understandable that the company may sometimes choose to focus on a single superstar, and in the process feed other top talent to them, it is puzzling how the WWE has managed to kill the Wyatts’ momentum in such a short time.
Last year, during Wyatt’s feud with John Cena, the best scenario would’ve been to give the decisive win to Bray Wyatt, establishing him as a legitimate top guy in the company. However, WWE managed to make Bray, and the entire Wyatt family look weak.
It was once again the same case with Bray’s feud with the Undertaker and then, Roman Reigns. While giving the Undertaker a victory at WrestleMania, after his loss to Lesnar last year seemed logical, it would have given Bray the much needed rub to beat the Deadman at WrestleMania, considering the Undertaker doesn’t have too many years left in the tank.
Bray was then fed to Roman Reigns, with the WWE hell bent on making Roman the next big thing in the company.
With the Wyatts now getting into a feud with the Brothers of Destruction, and possibly facing them at Survivor Series, we can only wait and see if WWE gives the Wyatts a much deserved and needed victory, or once again falter, and give the veterans, who do not need a win at this point in their careers, the win.
