Paul Heyman – The greatest of our generationWhile it has been said that Bobby “The Brain” Heenan is the greatest wrestling manager of all time, it’s hard to argue that Paul Heyman is the greatest of this era and a generation of reality stars that make old school wrestling look like art. There is an art and method to Heyman’s madness which is magnified each time he steps in a wrestling ring and utters the words, “My name is Paul Heyman.”He is simple and electrifying at the same time. What Heyman, a master of crowd control, has done is make his place in WWE must see television, and when the advocate for Brock Lesnar speaks, like an old EF Hutton mantra, fans, WWE and the wrestlers in the back listen.A week without Heyman on television – given that Lesnar does not work a full slate of shows and pay-per-views – is like cola without ice… something is just missing. Heyman has taken the role of the manager in the business to a whole new level. The role of the manager in this business predominantly was to act as a secondary player – to be a voice for a solid performer, but maybe not such a good talker. Someone who is a distraction, usually as a heel, to help his (or her) client get the victory.Heyman doesn’t insert himself in the match like other managers in the past (Mr. Fuji, Jimmy Hart, Skandor Akbar). His mouth and facial expressions are enough to raise the roof. Just ask Undertaker how annoying the reminder is that Heyman and Lesnar helped to destroy the streak.Since Lesnar is a part-timer and ratings are down, maybe it is time for Heyman to work his magic with another superstar. It couldn’t hurt. The connection with CM Punk led to 435 days as WWE World Champion. He had nominal success with Cesaro and we shouldn’t talk about Curtis Axel and Ryback. These three wrestlers could use some good juju and maybe a resurrection of their careers…
#1 Damien Sandow
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
I have thought for the longest time Sandow is one of the biggest waste of talents in the company. A tireless worker with a solid look and is pretty darn good on the mic.
Sandow could be a very good mid-card champion and borderline main eventer. Maybe WWE officials should consider him as part of a new package since the mega stars are either injured or on hiatus.
While Sandow is capable of delivering a solid performance in and out of the ring on his own, having Heyman by his side would help. Both have dominant personalities. The same could have been said with Heyman and CM Punk. There is no comparison between Punk and Sandow, but you get the point.
Sandow could be in for a huge 2016 if he had someone by his side. Not Curtis Axel. Not Cody Rhodes. Certainly not The Miz.
#2 Wade Barrett and Sheamus
OK, so this article will be about four wrestlers, not three. Call it creative writing.
I think the duo of these two would be great in the tag team division. Both Barrett and Sheamus are brawlers, much like Lesnar, with less talent. Sometimes, two guys toiling in the mid card come together and there is a true connection and lighting is caught.
Heyman knows a thing or two about brawlers and has managed tag team champions before. Does the connection bring tag team gold to these two? Maybe or maybe not, they will certainly be more entertaining with someone walking with them to the ring than the position they are right now.
They are too talented to be lost in WWE’s shuffle.
#3 Samoa Joe
This might be the most brilliant move of all.
Joe has not made his WWE debut yet, but there has been plenty of speculation he could appear at any number of pay-per-view events. Wouldn’t it be awesome to see him come to the ring with Heyman by his side? A different version of Lesnar with all the raw power and strength of a super heavyweight.
Some wrestlers look the part. Joe is the part. Mean to the core. And with Heyman there, he immediately becomes a main event contender.
