Seth Rollins has had quite a life so far. Whether it is being the first man to cash in Money in the Bank at WrestleMania or being one of the few people to have won the ROH and WWE Title, Rollins has seemingly done a lot of things no one really knows about. Rollins is quite a unique character with a lot of facts few people know about him. Whether it is the history he has made or things that no one would think about with him, we have found a lot of facts regarding the future of WWE that you might want to see. While there were more, we were able to count down the top five things you need to know about Seth Rollins.
#1 Almost got fired from WWE
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
When WWE Superstar Seth Rollins was first hired by WWE, he felt that he was as good as or better than anyone in developmental. He felt that he should be on the main roster from moment one, but he was too high on himself.
He needed development and patience. It was something WWE coaches were trying to make sure he had. Rollins needed to learn humility, and because he had a lot of issues with it, he always found himself on the bad side of management.
Even when he was used well in developmental winning the FCW 15 Title, FCW World Title, and even the NXT Championship, he always felt that he needed to be used on the main roster. He would call up John Laurinaitis and consistently ask when he was going to be brought up. John would tell him to be patient with it, but it didn’t seem to work well.
Eventually, Rollins got on the bad side of so many that there were serious discussions about releasing him from the WWE. Luckily, he was able to change his ways and calm down. Of course, shortly after The Shield faction debuted and he has been in a big position ever since.
#2 He's Armenian
Born Colby Lopez, Seth Rollins was never known for his culture as he has never been linked to it. He comes off as a surfer type of guy, who just so happened to be from the mid-west.
When he became a wrestler, he took the name Tyler Black which made him just come off as the cool guy with a bit of a tan. Since he became a bit bigger, people were able to find out more about him. While his name suggests he has a Hispanic heritage, he is actually Armenian.
If he was Hispanic. WWE would surely want to exploit this on TV heavily. However, since he is Armenian, there is a good reason why WWE does not want to bring up this background on television as an American company. America is not very happy with the middle east if you catch my drift. So it would be unwise to use this to help WWE grow.
Armenia is a small country near Turkey and not too far from places like Syria, Iraq, and Iran.
If WWE were to exploit this and try to use it in marketing Rollins, it most likely would hurt more than help him in American eyes. Do not expect WWE to ever talk this up about him any time in the near or even distant future.
#3 He started very young
Rollins got his wrestling career started quite young. He had a similar story to CM Punk. Barring the family issues, Rollins was big on backyard wrestling and did various shows in the backyard wrestling format. He even ran some of the show. He started this at 14 years of age with no training whatsoever.
When he hit 16, he considered pro-wrestling as a career. College just didn’t seem right for him he felt, so he invested more time in wrestling than anything else.
He joined up with SCW the following year. In 2006, Rollins attended Wrestlemania XXII at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont. He vowed to himself there that it would be the last Wrestlemania he attended as a fan. Next time, he’d be on the card.
Rollins ended up in Ring of Honor as one of the first people who were legit fans of the promotion, watching as a kid. ROH has gotten a bit popular over the years and when ROH was able to bring Rollins in very young, it helped them market a top guy for years to come. The idea was that they would build him up more and more as time went on.
Rollins mentioned that he had every intention to work through ROH to get spotted by WWE. He eventually became one of the biggest stars on the Indy scene and that caught WWE’s attention. He is one of the few people to have entered WWE, at the time, as a big-time veteran before he even worked for the company.
#4 Only NXT, FCW, and WWE World Champion
People know by now that Seth Rollins is the first ever NXT Champion. This was a big deal for him, but he also made history that it seems no one else will be able to match.
Rollins won the FCW World Championship years ago when WWE was using FCW to train its talent. Rollins was actually the NXT Champ while he was on the main roster. He eventually lost it to Big E, shortly after debuting on the main roster and then only worked some NXT events here and there.
Last year, Rollins won the WWE World Heavyweight Title when he cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase.
This made Rollins the only man in history to have won the FCW, NXT, and WWE World Heavyweight Championships. He is also the only guy who started in NXT to have won the MITB match so far. Rollins has made some big history already as you have seen. So these types of things may only continue for him.
#5 Almost signed with TNA over WWE
Seth Rollins has clearly enjoyed a very good WWE career thus far. He has won the FCW, NXT, and WWE World Heavyweight Championships as mentioned in the last slide. However, he is also a former WWE tag team and current United States Champion. Overall, he is one of the most successful WWE Superstars in the company and he still has a lot of time to go in his WWE career.
However, this successful WWE career almost didn’t happen.
Rollins was recruited by TNA President Dixie Carter who was quite good to him. Rollins mentioned that he almost went to TNA, but his goal was always to be with WWE. So when WWE gave him the opportunity, he jumped at the chance and chose WWE over TNA. Wouldn’t it be interesting if Rollins never worked for WWE? The Shield nor any of the current big storylines of the past few years involving him would have ever happened.
That is quite a weird thing to think about.
