Time for a reignWhile it was a good moment to see Ryback winning his first championship after so many failed pushes to the main event, his reign hasn’t been any different from any previous champion’s who tried to bring back the title’s long lost relevance. The match at Summerslam was better than expected but the match still lacked a concrete storyline. It is time to move to some newer grounds and look for some newer feuds. Ryback hasn’t had too many great feuds in his career. It’s time focus falls back on getting that one thing right. Here are the 5 possible challengers for the Intercontinental title going forward
#1 Stardust
Top name doesn't want to enter the WWE Hall of Fame. More details HERE.
Stardust or Cody Rhodes is a tremendous talent. His gimmick is wonderful for the simple fact that it’s got some depth now. It’s so meta. He’s living the gimmick of a comic book villain. That ought to get him to the list of some of the most fascinating WWE characters of all time.
That said, he certainly deserves a storyline and maybe, just maybe he’ll have a terrific chemistry with Ryback to get this feud started and going strong for a long time. There is potential, it’s about time WWE taps into that territory.
#2 Kevin Owens
Ryback is a babyface and what better heel to face than Kevin Owens? Owens is amongst those rare talents in this industry who can talk, wrestle and have a good knowledge about in- ring psychology.
He also happens to be a big guy. He’s certainly no pushover. These two haven’t had a feud yet and that makes this match up fresh and full of possibilities. This may also lead to Owens having a first championship on the main roster. The IC title has always been a stepping stone to the main event. This should ideally do the trick for Owens.
#3 Rusev

These two had a feud that ended quite prematurely. Rusev was the first guy that showed the possibility of having a good feud with someone like Ryback who’s always lacked the right kind of an opponent.
This feud was cancelled following Rusev’s feud with Cena for the U.S Title which was great in itself. But it came at the expense of something else that may have had greatness written all over it.
This still has the potential to be a tremendous match-up.
#4 Bray Wyatt
Bray Wyatt is another guy with whom Ryback had a somewhat good chemistry with but this feud was cancelled midway as well. This time Wyatt decided to focus on the Undertaker and Ryback was sidelined. Also, Wyatt is another superstar who’s been on the roster for a couple of years now but hasn’t won a singles’ title yet. The IC title seems like a good first singles championship.
If we look at the roster now there are so many talents who haven’t won their first championship.
The IC title has a lot of takers.
#5 Roman Reigns
He is not really a heel but for the hardcore fans, he already is.
Why Roman Reigns makes this list is because he’s another superstar who’s got main event written all over him and has yet to win a singles championship. His former Shield brothers have both won a singles championship but the powerhouse of the Shield is yet to win an accolade.
Why this matters is because Reigns is the heir apparent and he will win the biggest title some day but before that he has to have a steppin stone moment and the IC title is apt for that.
