With Sheamus’s return to The WWE main roster on the horizon, we look at five possible opponents for The Celtic Warrior to dish out a Brogue kick to. Sheamus has been out of action since November, when Rusev and Mark Henry double teamed him on an episode of Monday night Raw. He has used his time away from the squared circle to get a much needed surgery for an injury he hasn’t disclosed.
#1 Ryback
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
Ryback is in need of a big win in the WWE right now, and what better person to give it to him than Sheamus. Both these superstars are true power houses in the ring, with a wide array of punishing moves at their disposal. Sheamus coming back as a heel would be the best option here, because it would allow for Sheamus’s awesome microphone skills to come into play, allowing for some very entertaining segments on Raw and Smackdown.
This would also allow Ryback to get more over as a face. Something he seems to be having trouble doing, due to his lack of connection to the fans. The match itself would be something to remember, especially if Ryback is able to counter a brogue kick with a meat hook close line for the win. The win would be big for Ryback, and would definitely raise him up the card a little bit.
#2 Dolph Ziggler
It’s got to be impossible to have a bad match, when Dolph Ziggler is the person standing across from you in the ring. With the amount of reversals and energy these two superstars could throw into this match, it would certainly be a candidate for match of the year, not like ever Ziggler match doesn’t already fall into that category.
Sheamus would also make a great heel in this scenario, allowing Ziggler to continue to build his momentum as fan favorite with the WWE Universe. Sheamus should take the first match, then lose to Ziggler at the next pay per view, to set up a rubber match at Extreme Rules. The best result would be for Ziggler to go over and get the win, but the WWE might also want to build Sheamus up for an eventually feud with Barrett as well for The Intercontinental title.
#3 Damien Sandow
Like Ryback, Sandow is also currently riding a wave of momentum, but needs to beat a more established superstar in order to further cement his push. A feud with Sheamus could accomplish this and much more if done the right way. Sheamus would need to come in a heel in this scenario and have Sandow as the conquering baby face hero. Maybe the WWE could have Sheamus flirting with a diva backstage, and then have Sandow step in before Sheamus is able to go too far.
This would be a huge baby face moment for Sandow and also help establish Sheamus as the brutal heel that he once was when he first arrived into the WWE. Sheamus could also become The Miz’s new body guard and have both superstars conspire to take out Sandow due to his popularity with The WWE Universe. Either way, the WWE needs to build upon what they have done with Sandow’s character, and having him in a feud with a top guy like Sheamus would be a great start to that.
#4 Big Show
Having these two titans of The WWE going at would definitely be best for business. It would give Big Show a chance to have his own feud, instead of just having him play enforcer for The Authority all the time, and would give The WWE Universe some pretty great matches in the process. When these two feuded back in 2013, I honestly could not unglue my eyes from the television screen.
The K.O Punch versus The Brogue Kick remains two of my favorite finishers to this day. This feud could also take an unexpected turn if Sheamus is able to easily dispose of Big Show and ends up joining The Authority himself. Doing this would also be a great way to Sheamus back in the title picture as The Authorities new golden boy. While the latter scenario is highly unlikely, it is honestly Sheamus’s best show of getting back into the title picture in 2015.
#5 Wade Barrett
Let’s be honest here. In 2013, Barrett and Sheamus had some of the best matches every single night on Raw, Smackdown, and Main Event. Both had punishing move sets, told tremendous stories inside the ring, and their finishing sequences left many fans in awe after their match. A feud with Barrett would also allow both superstars to flourish on the mic and create very compelling segments before their pay per view matches.
I know many fans are hoping that Sheamus challenges Rusev to a rematch for The U.S title, but Barrett and Sheamus have so much better chemistry in the ring that any kind of match they do could qualify for match of the night. The addition of The IC title, and a triple threat match with Dean Ambrosecould also spice up this feud as well. Either way, Sheamus needs to defeat an established star to climb back up The WWE ladder, and Wade Barrett is that mid card star right now.
