Seth Rollins mocks CM Punk during one of their matchesWell, when AJ Lee’s record has been broken, can CM Punk’s one be far behind? Well, breaking a 434-day championship reign isn’t easy to break or book to to be broken, but it will be done some day. There are some superstars who’ll actually be quite great in carrying the title for more than 434 days and Seth Rollins is certainly one of them. The man who many call The Architect of The Shield has had a glorious year after breaking off from his team and going on to win the Money In The Bank ladder match and eventually the WWE World Heavyweight Championship in stylish fashion. Here are the 5 reasons Seth Rollins is the man to beat Punk's record reign with the title-
#5 Small steps before the leap
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
Seth Rollins is already the longest reigning champion who won the championship via cashing in his Money In The Bank contract. He surpassed The Miz more than two months ago. The Miz had held the title for 160 days.
Rollins has already held the title for 218 days and counting. This is already quite impressive. Overall, the only men ‘in the modern era’ who’ve held the title longer than him are some of the biggest names in the business like Cena, Orton and Triple H.
He’s already a part of history, there is no way that he can’t carry the load of breaking another record.
#4 A Heel like no other
There is no one at the moment who can speak of being a much loathed heel than Seth Rollins. Stephanie McMahon and Triple H have mellowed down tremendously in their appearances and heel nature.
But Rollins just never shuts up. So, when HBK came and decimated Rollins on the mic, it was beautiful. CM Punk is a much revered performer in the world of wrestling. When he left, he left a void in many a hearts, be it casual or hardcore fans.
Rollins is just the right guy to gain more heat by breaking that record.
#3 The Authority gets back
Talking about gaining more heel heat, there is his new family with Triple H and Stephanie Mcmahon acting as mommy and daddy. Rollins plays the spoilt little brat act perfectly. And then just have the pros at being heels, come out and talk about their champ being closer to beating CM Punk who they consider a quitter and there you have a major heel moment.
This is the moment of corporate honchos and heels getting back at Punk. Well, even thinking about it is hard. There’s going to be some major boos slinging their way towards the Authority and Seth Rollins.
And the thing is Rollins is so good in his role and wrestling, that he’ll be able to carry that load.
#2 A Hardcore favorite
Seth Rollins, much like CM Punk, comes from an independent background and he flourished everywhere he went. He’s had his own share of frustrations with the management during the time when he didn’t know when he’ll be promoted from FCW to the main roster.
He is one of the best, most exciting wrestlers on the roster, being able to execute just about any move. Actually, other than Cesaro, nobody lights up the arena with their wrestling like Rollins.
He’s got many a fan in the hardcore wrestling fan community to accept him breaking the reign.
So, in the longer run, the moment of him breaking the record will be much welcomed.
#1 The Future
There is no better way to break Punk’s record than having it broken by someone who used to be the future of the WWE and is now steadily establishing himself to be the present ‘Man’ in the business.
CM Punk vouched for Rollins to be on the main roster since Rollins’ FCW days. Ambrose and then Rollins were his favourites. Punk claims to have had the idea to have Rollins, Ambrose and Kassius Ohno form The Shield. The company vetoed Ohno out and put Reigns in his place. And then began the origins of The Shield.
There is no better way to break a much-respected record than having it broken by a credible wrestler.
Also, one more interesting moment comes from way back when the Shield was together and the audience began chanting ‘CM Punk’ during an Ambrose - Henry match and Rollins took the mic and uttered, “ CM- Who?”
