2014 hasn’t been a good year for WWE. The fans had the opportunity to witness some iconic moments in the year, but as a whole, it has been a big fat disappointment. Apart from SummerSlam and WrestleMania, the pay-per-views weren’t up to mark while the innovative idea of launching the Network fell flat.Financial turmoil and firing an array of superstars made matters worse for Vince McMahon who might be wondering about Hunter’s efficiency in carrying the product forward. There are still three months left till the year end, meaning that the company could deliver something good for the fans and buildup for a better year. So here is a look at those moments that the WWE Universe would love to see before 2014 comes to a conclusion.
#5 Roman Reigns winning the WWE Championship
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
From the start of the year, Reigns has been built up as the next big thing by WWE creative. He shined in almost all the big pay-per-views, providing a launching pad for his singles career.
Once the Shield broke up, the path became easier for the Samoan Star as he now had the luxury of World title matches. Though yjrtr it was multiple superstar matches, WWE made it clear that Reigns belonged to the title scene.
Currently Brock Lesnar is reigning as the dominant champion and if there is anyone who could defeat the Beast, it’s the Superman himself.
Reigns getting over Lesnar while Cena failed would establish Reigns as the new face of WWE and facing someone like Lesnar would give Reigns the exposure that he needs to make the climb.
#4 Cesaro Lesnar Showdown
Lesnar winning the WWE Championship wasn’t encouraged by a major portion of the WWE Universe as the beast was a part time superstar. However, from the looks of it, Lesnar will be staying for some time.
This raises a need for finding opponents for the Beast since the feud with John Cena would probably end at Night of Champions. Big Show is rumored to be next in line to receive a title shot but the better option would be Cesaro.
Cesaro seemed to be heading straight to the main event scene after WrestleMania but at one point all the expectations came down crashing. Heyman was taken away from his side and Cesaro was rooted to the midcard.
The only way to revive Cesaro’s character will be to let him have an angle with Lesnar. Even if Cesaro doesn’t win against the champion, the match would be enough to get his career back on track.
#3 Stings debut
From the moment WCW folded, the loyal fans of WWE have been drooling about the prospect of seeing Sting in the company. They have been drooling for the past decade now and the moment is closer than ever.
Sting’s appearance in WWE 2K15 has been the biggest hint dropped about the icon finally making it in between the WWE squared circle. There is no confirmation about the deal but it’s the professional wrestling business, so we never know what happens next.
A farewell match or debuting as an authority figure is highly recommended for the veteran as he could still make a big impact even at this age. And of course, the dream encounter with Undertaker is something that everyone would love to see.
#2 Undertakers Return
After the streak ended at WrestleMania, Taker has been kept away from television. There are rumours suggesting that his in ring career is over and if it’s true, WWE has to let the Phenom come out and say this to the fans.
On the other hand, WWE has to plot a big return for Taker before the year ends. 2014 will be known as the year when Taker’s streak ended and he has to make another appearance to complete the scenario.
He could come out and confront the one in twenty one and one or just address the fans. No matter how small the segment is, Taker has to make his return before the year ends. He is too big to walk out like this and everyone in the WWE would be well aware of this face making it a must return scenario for the legend.
#1 John Cena turning Heel
Forget 2014, this is the most anticipated moment of the decade. Cena has been rooted as a face for a ridiculously long time and the fans have been more than vocal about this.
During the start of the year, no one would’ve expected this to happen but now that Paul Heyman is in the mix, who knows. Heyman is the best shot at turning Cena heel since the evil genius has achieved everything else in his illustrious career.
Back during the late 90s, WCW improved their business by turning Hulk Hogan heel and doing something similar is what WWE needs at such a precarious situation. This will open the door for a new face to stamp his place while the mouthwatering prospect of Cena being a Paul Heyman guy will morph into a main event program.
