ESPN is known for producing some excellent documentaries and their latest addition to that long list came in the form of WWE: Behind the Curtain. The documentary about NXT has redefined the word transparency for the wrestling fans out there and for the non-wrestling fans; it has given a hint on how the wrestling business works.Xavier Woods, Adam Rose, Corey Graves and Triple H were the main protagonists mentioned in the documentary and each man had an interesting tale to tell. There were a lot of takeaways from the one hour E:60 Special and we are going to take a look at the best ones from the lot.
#5 Next big star of WWE
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
Corey Graves had everything that a wrestler needed to reach the top. He was good looking, great on the mic and impressed everyone with his in-ring work. The WWE management was also high on him and wanted to push him to the moon once he reached the main roster.
Corey, to his credit, spent nearly half of his life in the wrestling business to reach such a stage but just when he was near his dreams, it all came crashing down. He suffered concussions after concussions to a point where the doctors said to him that he should not wrestle again.
If it wasn’t for his bad health, Corey would have easily been a main eventer in the main roster by now rather than being a commentator in NXT.
#4 The steroid scandals still haunt Vince
No matter how much PG WWE is, the steroids scandals are something that will haunt them forever. Although the documentary was supposed to be about how the NXT works and how WWE recruits a new talent into their main roster, Vince was posed with the questions of how the company’s wellness policy works.
Vince did strike up a good answer and said that they do everything they can to keep a healthy environment for their wrestlers. This includes random drug tests and concussion policies, which in the words of Vince are far better than what NFL does.
Also, Vince said that wrestlers are the biggest assets of WWE despite the vulnerability with which they come into the business.
#3 Triple Has a priority project
Ever wondered why New Day is getting a big push these days? Well, theyve got Triple H behind them thats why. From the documentary, it is clear that Hunter is high on Xavier Woods. Vince McMahon actually thinks that the gimmick of Xavier is over the top but Triple H thinks otherwise.
Triple H tagged Xavier as his priority project in the documentary and also went on to say that Xavier has everything.
The long list of favorites that Triple H has backstage is no secret but most of the fans mightve not known about Xavier Woods being on that list. And on a small note, Xavier is trying to become the first ever wrestler with a PHD. He is wrestling and studying at the same time, he does deserve some respect there. And you know who deserves more respect? Adam Rose
#2 Adam Rose deserves a lot of respect
What made the documentary a hit in the wrestling community is arguably the story of Adam Rose. After struggling a lot in his teenage back in South Africa, the real life Ray Leppan joined WWE while he was in his 30s and took up the character of Leo Kruger.
He married a beautiful woman from the United States called Cassandra and soon, they had a baby boy. Their son, however, was diagnosed with a rare condition which resulted in the doctors concluding that the boy might not make it. This conclusion was soon proven wrong as the boy is at three years of age already. He is fed with a feeding tube in the stomach and Ray wants to make it big in the WWE so that he can make a ‘better future’ for his family.
After four years in NXT, nothing good turned out for him and finally, WWE decided that he should change his character. Luckily for him, Adam Rose clicked with the NXT fans and this landed him a spot in the main roster.
Rose is well liked backstage for his personality and he is a gem of a person that works hard for his family. If you haven’t seen the documentary yet, it is highly recommended that you do just for his story because ESPN just turned him into a big babyface.
#1 Triple H is NXT
Triple H has received a lot of praise for the way in which NXT is going and this is sure to double after this documentary. His brilliance is all over the developmental territory and no matter how much criticism he gets for the burials he has done in the past, Triple H is what makes NXT stand out from the rest.
Vince McMahon is seen saying that what works in NXT might not work on the bigger stage but Hunter delivers a speech which contradicts to the view of Vince. In the documentary, we see Triple H as a motivator, a teacher and a creative genius rather than the wrestler or the politician that we know him to be. And the bottom line, Triple H is the future.
