Missed the first edition of Fast Lane? Well, don’t worry because it was nothing more than an overblown version of the show that WWE brings every Monday Night.Despite having a card that had a lot of potential in it, the creative team decided to go take a day off and ended up with a forgettable event. Apart from the Roman Reings vs Daniel Bryan match that blew the roof off, Vince McMahon’s Hollywood dropouts could not write up anything worth remembering from the show.Being the last stop to WrestleMania, there were a lot of expectations on the Fast Lane pay-per-view and here is a look at the reasons why those expectations were not met.
#5 Keeping Stings motivation a mystery
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
WWE did a lot of effort to build up the confrontation between Triple H and Sting. However, when the moment arrived it felt like a silent movie from the prehistoric days. Now, both superstars showed that they don’t need any words to say the story.
It was poetic from one perspective but then again, the stage wasn’t quite perfect. The feud between Sting and Hunter started back in Survivor Series and we still don’t know why Sting interfered in Authority’s match.
Right now, it is Triple H who seems desperate for a match against Sting and the urge is solely based on Sting’s interference at Survivor Series. But then again we don’t know why Sting interfered and it has been nearly four months. So basically we don’t know what the root of this match at WrestleMania is.
#4 Dirty win for Rusev
What does it take to defeat John Cena in a pay-per-view? Give him a low blow and lock him in some submission or pin him, simple as that. On paper, it might not sound like a bad idea, but imagine the same process happening a million times over.
Cena has been booked with such protection for nearly a decade now and repeating the same at Fast Lane did no one any favors.
The fans are tired of seeing Super Cena burying youngsters and WWE should think about something different if they are to keep Cena relevant. And for Rusev, he is probably going to lose out to Cena at WrestleMania just like Bray Wyatt did at the last year’s event.
#3 The whole Goldust vs Stardust match
The sibling feud between Goldust and Stardust could have been the show stealer of the night, but thanks to some botches and lazy booking, the match was nothing more than below average.
Cody flashed occasional brilliance with his heel character throughout the match but that did not stop the fans from giving out boring chants. The ending also seemed messed up due to some reason.
The brothers were not given proper time to tell a proper story in between the ropes and it was a case of the post-match segment in the backstage being better than the actual match. The stakes and intensity will be higher at WrestleMania and hopefully WWE would not mess up again.
#2 The predictable finish to Ambrose vs Barrett
While the entire match between Goldust and Stardust was a big mistake, it was the ending that ruined Ambrose vs. Bad News Barrett. Ambrose did get a great crowd reaction for his post match promo but the way in which the match ended made everyone frown.
Speaking about the match, it was a brawl fest. Both men showed some immense amount of chemistry and it was solid till the climax sequence, where Ambrose was disqualified for not listening to the referee.
Now, if WWE is looking to have a rematch between the two, the result is okay but Ambrose losing through disqualification is like Cena kicking out at two. It should have been avoided but since WWE are busy making their fans mad, lets not blame anyone else.
#1 The missing champion
The match between Roman Reigns and Daniel Bryan was hands down the show stealer of the night. It was one of the rare cases in WWE where two superstars told an emotionally charged story with their wrestling and everything about it felt perfect.
However, there was one thing missing at the show; Brock Lesnar. For the record, it is a shot for the WWE Championship that both these superstars wanted and it was only fitting for Lesnar to come down after the match for at least a stare down with Reigns.
It would have set up the tone for WrestleMania perfectly but since it didnt happen, WWE will have to do double duty in the coming weeks.
