Extreme Rules proved to be more extreme than expected as the fans got so see glimpses of Attitude Era here and there at the pay-per-view.Almost all the storylines were left with the possibility of a continuation especially the stable war which went down between Shield and Evolution. Bray Wyatt also made his new agenda clear after his winning effort against John Cena while Kane was standing tall despite losing out to Daniel Bryan. The pay-per-view had its fair share of moments to cherish from the pre-show itself, so here is a look at how the superstars performed with the Superstar Ratings for Extreme Rules.
#17 R-Truth and Xavier Woods 5
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
When the handicap match was made for Extreme Rules, it was pretty much clear that R-Truth and Xavier Woods were not getting anything good out of it.
It was just the same once the match started as Rusev dominated from get go. There were instance of fight back from Truth but Woods sadly came out looking as the worst performer of the pay-per-view. The duo will probably end up as the new 3MB as there is no possibility of the feud continuing with Rusev.
#16 Hornswoggle 6
Going into the match against El Torito, many stamped Hornswoggle the one to be stumbling since he still was far away from pulling off a convincing match.
However as the match started, the organized chaos took over and Hornswoggle simply camouflaged into the mess making him look better. He deserves appreciation for the risks he took even if it was on a miniature scale.
#15 El Torito- 6.5
Though El Torito didn’t get the chances to showcase his entire move set in a goof ball match, it was more than refreshing to see him wrestle. It might not be a surprise if WWE decides to give him more ring time because he could do better.
Addition of everything miniature made things a treat to the eyes and the match was something which kicked off Extreme Rules in an odd yet entertaining manner.
#14 Jack Swagger- 6.5
As expected, Swagger was nowhere near winning the triple threat match as he was the first one to be eliminated. He didn’t have any positives to take away from the match which made matters worse on the long run.
The interesting aspect now will be to see what new direction WWE will give him because a new tag team partner could really solve the problems for Swagger.
#13 Tamina 6.5
Tamina proved to be a worthy opponent for the reigning divas champion even though she failed to win the title.
It was a brute performance from the side of Tamina and with the performance she put up against Paige, there are chances that this might be the start of a rivalry that could throw up some more matches that could help the Division.
#12 Alexandre Rusev-7
For everyone who saw the card before the PPV, this might’ve been just a squash match, but surprisingly there were some moments which said other ways.
R-Truth in particular gave Rusev some run for his money but couldn’t hold up much to the dominance of the Bulgarian Brute. It’s a win to help Rusev rise up the ranks and the quality of opponents will hopefully rise as well when we go further.
#11 Rob Van Dam- 7
Mr. Monday night had his fair share of action in the triple threat match and even managed to eliminate Jack Swagger. The lack of chemistry with Cesaro was there to be seen unfortunately as the bout moved towards its conclusion.
Nevertheless, it was nostalgic seeing Van Dam under the Extreme Rules banner and that too in the presence of Paul Heyman.
#10 Paige- 7
Paige came out with flying colors on her first real test as the Divas champion when she successfully defended the title against Tamina.
WWE continued to portray Paige as an underdog which worked well against Tamina but needs to be restructured for the rest of the divas in the roster. It’s a great win under the belt for Paige and she is gradually building up a strong backing before she finally faces off against AJ Lee.
#9 John Cena- 7
A Cena who tried to constantly escape the cage was an entirely different experience for the fans who are used to seeing him stand up and fight.
He was also in the edge of winning the match with all the interference that happened but was stopped by the creepiness that Wyatt managed to pull off by bringing out the child. Cena will now be looking to face the music of Wyatt Family wanting to recruit him and if so, WWE will have to book the two better.
#8 Big E 7. 5
Big E produced one of the best matches of his title reign at Extreme Rules only to lose out to Bad News Barrett and surrender the title.
He apparently didn’t have a good backstory-opponent combination till now to show his skills and when it came it proved to be his last match as the champion. Big E could easily embark on a feud with Barrett for the title and give us some more matches like of similar quality.
#7 Wyatt Family- 8
Instead of giving us a monster Bray Wyatt, WWE decided to go with a simple heel one which took the life out of the match.
Despite the win, the only thing that stood out from the performance of Wyatt Family was the creepy segment with the child in the end. The win definetly is something good for Bray but ever since he debuted, it was his character that was a hit not the results.
#6 Cesaro- 8
For the second pay-per-view in the running, Cesaro made his mark big time. Getting a clean win over two former World champions will stand out in his impressive resume. WWE clearly has a lot of faith in Cesaro and now the question will be about his next venture.
With Paul Heyman on his side Cesaro will not be scarce of any opportunity and hopefully he will continue to rise instead of being held up somewhere.
#5 Evolution- 8
Evolution played typical heels against Shield which made the match an instant classic. It might be a bit hard to swallow that we will not see a rematch between the two as Batista will be heading off for the promotions of Guardians of the Galaxy.
However, with Triple H and Orton sticking around, finding a new member and getting revenge on Shield will be right on top of the “to-do” list of Evolution.
#4 Bad News Barrett- 8.5
Barrett winning the intercontinental title turned out to be good news for the fans as they once again showed that the traditional line between faces and heels are blurred.
It was a truly deserved win for the British Brawler and there is sense of feeling around the whole locker room that he is going to be a better champion than Big E due to the added skills with the microphone. Big E will be looking to get his title back which promises another exciting encounter between the two.
#3 Kane- 8.5
Giving Kane his mask back is turning out to be the best decision that WWE did after WrestleMania as Kane delivered a great performance against Daniel Bryan.
Kane was more than just a mere challenger for the title as it was more personal. It was one of the best bookings that he has got in years and Daniel Bryan complemented well to make Kane look more credible as the monster. The ending promises a continuation for the story which might well carry on the momentum that Kane has now.
#2 Daniel Bryan- 9
Daniel Bryan’s performance at Extreme Rules is going to be an eye opener for everyone who still believes that he will only enjoy a short run in the main event as a top baby face.
Bryan came out of the match as a warrior who had no intentions of backing down at any instance. He was just throwing everything at Kane and eventually came out as the winner. Bryan is riding high on momentum again after that win and could be put into any feud at this point.
#1 Shield-9.5
It was one of the best performances from the Hounds of Justice in their short career and the fact that it came against three men who had more than 20 world titles between them made it look more excellent.
WWE wisely made Roman Reigns the only one standing once the match ended but Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins stole the show. Rollins in particular had a lot of moments to take back home which showed everyone why he is so respected in the Indy circuit. It’s a huge win for Shield who has stamped as top players after Extreme Rules.
