WWE Fastlane 2016: 5 major twists at the PPV

Different belt on a different person this time

If only! You must admit things are looking a little hazy at the halfway mark on the Road to WrestleMania. Big draws injured, bankable talent rudderless and the danger of your biggest asset turning into your biggest liability leave fans circumspect despite the WWE promising a helluva show.As things stand now, there are just four matches confirmed – the main event between Reings, Ambrose and Lesnar for the WWE World Heayweight Championshipnumber one contender’s slot, a US title match between Kalisto and Alberto Del Rio, a Divas Championship match between Charlotte and Brie Bella and a Divas tag team match with Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch joining forces against Tamina and Naomi. Now, there’s a guaranteed success rate of 50% here, with the first and last mentioned being a foregone conclusion. There are a few more matches on the way, but let’s step away from the realm of the ordinary and delve into the gray dimension that exists between the monochromes:

#5 Yes!Yes!Yes!

Different belt on a different person this time

Former WWE writer buries Judgment Day HERE

While many are still in mourning over Daniel Bryan’s retirement, the setback presents Brie Bella with a golden opportunity. Mrs. Bryan now has a shot at representing for her husband and sister.

Nikki’s going through her own tribulation. The other Bella twin is trying to make a successful comeback after surgery for a neck injury that could deal her the bad hand that was dealt to her brother-in-law.

The closing moments of the match have Charlotte seemingly on course for another win, but Brie finds a second wind and looks like she’ll pull off the unthinkable. But daddy dearest always has his little girl’s back and tries a little wheelin-dealin.

But before he can, the head of the ‘Yes’ movement runs out and lays out Flair with a vicious kick. Charlotte, aghast at the sight of her Hall of Famer father knocked senseless by a retiree, forgets about Brie, who connects with the Knee+ for the win.

Brie and Daniel celebrate on each turnbuckle to roaring ‘Yes’ chants to mark a memorable title reign.

#4 Entering Dudleyville

D-Von! Get the....

One of the better heel turns transpired on RAW last week when the Dudleys sent the Usos through tables. The two reappeared the following evening to tell everyone that they’re making Dudleyville a table-free zone and getting down to business.

So naturally, a tables match at Fastlane giving the Usos an opportunity to pull one back, is the obvious choice. The twins win, and the resulting feud spills over into the tag team titles picture, setting up a 6-man tag team contest at WrestleMania 32.

It seems unfathomable that the New Day would drop the titles, so perhaps Bubba turns on D-Von after the loss in Dallas.

#3 The Undertaker

Don’t turn your back on him, Taker!

The Universe’s heart skipped a beat when it was reported that this WrestleMania won’t be the Phenom’s last. It’s evident that they want Cena to send him off but since he’s not expected back until much after WrestleMania, 33’s the only remaining option.

So how do we fit in the Deadman at the event he’s most synonymous with that’s being held in his own backyard?

A 6-man tag match at Fastlane pitting the Big Show, Kane and Ryback against the Wyatts will most probably be announced tomorrow. The Wyatts win and go about their post-match ritual of underlining why they’re the biggest and baddest in the yard, when we have a blackout.

The sepulchral bells sound and there he is! The Undertaker, steel chair in hand, plays one-man army and clears the Wyatts out of the ring. The Big Show and Ryback bow in gratitude to the legend before walking off, with Kane seemingly in tow.

In a second that seems an eternity, brother turns on brother and the Demon Kane lays out his saviour. The following RAW could bear an explanation and from there, it’s one way traffic.

#2 The Phenomenal Y2J

A new era?

Jericho is a master at putting over talent and that seems the plan for AJ Styles. Things have reached boiling point and a match at Fastlane is a foregone conclusion. The match should preferrably have a stipulation, like a Streetfight or a 2-out-of-3 falls.

Styles should win because he needs a boost and who better to fall on the barbed wire than good ol’ Y2J? The match ends with a series of finishers and near falls and reversed submissions before Styles picks up the win clean.

The two face off and the tension’s so thick, forget the knife, you’ll need an axe. They step closer and closer before the inevitable handshake but that’s not all. They raise joined hands and walk off to tease a possible unification. New Day, there’s a new huge blip on the radar.

#1 The main event

Royal Rumble repeat?

You can tell this is a suspicious package from a mile away. Creative definitely has something up their sleeve, but you know what? So do we! Here’s our hand. Fast forward after Brock’s slow-down after being the dictator and the inevitable face-off between brothers to a huge pop.

Lesnar comes back and starts rebuilding Suplex City, but Reigns and Ambrose shut him down. Finishers are being handed out like flyers but things come to a screeching halt when Beast mode gets switched on. Brock lays out both of them and just when the match seems a foregone conclusion, we have another blackout.

The four walls that are the Wyatts begin closing down on Lesnar. Reigns and Ambrose’s resistance is futile and the Beast is caged by the WWE’s resident cult. So what now?

A DQ of course. The main event at WrestleMania 32 turns into a Fatal Four-Way. But etiquette dictates that Brock has to face Bray in a match earlier that evening, where he once again gets handicapped and is seemingly out of the running for the WHC.

But Brock gonna Brock, so he makes it back, limping and clutching his side. The Wyatts once again rear their heads that are the stuff of a barber’s nightmare but get beaten back by all the other four. Brock wins the World Heavyweight Championship and sets up a mouth-watering program for the title with Bray Wyatt.

Now, what to do with the others? How about this? The Authority picks on the brothers until a returning Seth Rollins augments them and we have the Shield 2.0. Let’s face facts – Roman Reigns is best appreciated when he has no belt in any form or shape and Ambrose and Rollins are such babyfaces that they’ll flourish even without belts. A returning Randy Orton could rejoin the Authority and we might be pushing it here, but how about a heel John Cena?
