WWEs love with excellent segments continued this week on Raw as the in ring action was pushed back into the background due to a lack of credible matches. The company made progress with almost all of their big angles this week which laid the path well for a SummerSlam showdown. In contradiction to the tradition, it is a divas feud that is getting all the hype from the company as Stephanie McMahon and Brie Bella headlined the companys flagship show for the second consecutive week. There were other developments throughout the roster and also some moments which will go down in the archives as usual. So as the week rounded off well, here is a look at the top moments of the night which made the fans go wild.
#5 Ziggler becoming No.1 contender
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
Whenever Ziggler steps in between the ropes, he pushes himself to the limit which hasn’t gone unnoticed by the WWE fans.
This was the reason behind the cheers he got every time he walked down the ramp. Ziggler was often kept in the background due to one reason or the other, but the recent booking suggested that he will be getting the limelight at SummerSlam.
Becoming the No.1 contender for the Intercontinental championship has guaranteed a spot for Ziggler in the SummerSlam match card, a feat that he could only dream of a couple of months back.
It was surely something he deserved for the efforts he has put into the business and so the WWE might even trust him with the title.
#4 Slater upsetting Rollins
Heath Slater has been floating around the WWE roster ever since the Nexus broke up. After years, he found some television time with 3 MB but was restricted to being a jobber all this while.
Despite the burying booking that he got through the years, Slater entertained the fans whenever he got the chance and the company gifted him with a token of appreciation this week.
Slater getting a win over someone so protected like Rollins was one of the best moments of the week as it showed that the WWE isn’t always cruel to the midcarders. It might’ve been a black comedy as well but from the wider angle, they couldn’t have built up the match between Rollins and Ambrose better.
#3 Dean Ambroses casual tease
The brilliance with which Ambrose is making his character develop in the feud with Rollins cannot be stressed enough. He showed that he was one of the best microphone workers in the company over the past few weeks and this time, he delivered a message without opening his mouth.
He was walking casually around the ring and causing organized chaos to distract Rollins. The way in which he took things from the fans and used them at his will was poetic.
With that said, Ambrose is at the strongest position in this feud so far now that he has the luxury of choosing the stipulation against Rollins. And knowing Ambrose, both superstars won’t be coming out looking pretty from that match.
#2 Stephanie McMahons pedigree
As mentioned earlier, WWE is investing a lot in the Stephanie – Brie angle and this week’s closing segment was another proof of this.
Last week, Stephanie was projected a bit scared due to the charges but this week, the McMahon girl just grabbed all the momentum. Hunter being by her side made matters better as he added more star power to the segment.
As the segment progressed, the creative team also made Stephanie use her husband’s signature move which caught the fans by surprise.
It was a great way to end the night as the fans got to see a glimpse of what Stephanie could bring into the ring at SummerSlam.
#1 Lesnars UFC type Promo
One of the complaints that the WWE universe often has about Lesnar is the lack of promos that he pulls off. He was often projected as a superstar who needed Paul Heyman to talk for him but this week; Lesnar rewrote those writings on the wall.
Though the absence of Cena and Lesnar hurt the build-up, the company covered it up with a great video package that made the SummerSlam main event look like the biggest match of the year.
The PG Era fans who didn’t know how intense Lesnar could be when he talks were treated to something good this week when the Beast delivered a UFC type promo against Cena.
It was a no holds barred talk from both the superstars but Lesnar stole the show by coming out of Heyman’s shadow.
