Building up for SummerSlam was one thing that the WWE couldnt afford to mess up. However, it was this worst case scenario at Battleground as the fans were left shaking their heads in disappointment when the pay-per-view unfolded.Decorated with a lot of mistimed booking decisions left WWE red faced heading to SummerSlam and the next opportunity that theyll have to recover will be at this weeks Raw.Shows after a pay-per-view have always delivered for the company and the fans will be hoping for the same when WWE brings its flagship show from American Airlines Arena in Miami. So here is a look at some of the things that WWE might do to save their face from a disappointing outing on Sunday.
#5 What is wrong with the Divas division?
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
The Divas division seemed to be heading the right way as the company was having three good storylines which had all the potential to be success stories.
This raised the hope of WWE universe heading to Battleground where the company showed that they tend to disappoint the fans when it comes to the divas. The execution of all three feuds was below par especially the match between AJ Lee and Paige for the Divas title which had two of the most talented female wrestlers in the world.
Pre-show match between Cameron and Naomi wasn’t exciting as well and Cameron winning made matter worse.
With a big pay-per-view like SummerSlam around the corner, WWE has to do some miracle to pick up the divas if they want to keep female wrestling alive in the company for the long run.
#4 Fresh opponents please
One of the things that had to happen at Battleground was the Usos dropping the tag title. For one reason or the other, the WWE chose to go the other way and has left the fans wondering about the future of tag title.
Another match with the Wyatt Family is entirely out of the table for Usos. Though the match would be excellent, a sense of Déjà vu is sure to take over the spectators. Also after losing two big matches fair and square, Wyatt Family has no case to raise if they want a rematch.
Alternatives for the Wyatt Family include Goldust and Stardust and the Ascension. The former would be an automatic choice but it would be ground breaking if the company let Ascension make a surprise debut this week and have a stage like Summerslam to win the titles.
#3 Awesome one with the gold
A few months back, the name Miz wouldn’t have evoked any kind of emotions among the fans. Things however have changed drastically and the new Hollywood persona that he has is doing wonders for everyone involved.
Miz winning the Intercontinental title was the first step that WWE took to get the awesome one back to relevance and the next stage would probably be a big feud for SummerSlam.
Before Battleground, Miz had a lot of friction with Sheamus which has opened the door for a unification feud between the two champions in midcard.
If WWE decides to move towards that direction, it will benefit both Miz and Sheamus but would adversely affect other midcarders who will have no chance of challenging for a title at a big stage like SummerSlam.
#2 Revenge of the screwed
Ambrose getting screwed over by the Authority was something which was predicted earlier. And when that happened at Battleground, it gave Rollins a lot of heat due to his twisted ways and has left the fans rooting more for Ambrose.
Ambrose is slowly sliding into the character that Daniel Bryan had for more than a year and it ensures his rise to the top even if he doesn’t pick up wins.
Hunter and Rollins joining hands to screw their foe might’ve not sat well for people who were expecting a great match, but for the narrative continuation, it seemed to be the best move.
Ambrose now has more reasons to seek his revenge and when he gets the chance, he is going to have the whole WWE Universe cheering for him.
#1 Plan B in absence of Cena
Triple H made it clear that he had a backup plan incase John Cena was able to survive the fatal four way match at Battleground. And since Cena just did that, Hunter will be looking to materialize his evil master plan to take the title away from the Cenation leader.
Though the possibility of it being a Money in the Bank cash in will be relevant, the direction in which Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollin travel suggest otherwise.
This leaves the fans with the next best possibility: Brock Lesnar.
The beast has been out of the WWE picture for a ridiculously long time now and his return is imminent as the company is stepping into SummerSlam period.
The interesting fact about the return however would be the absence of Cena. The capacity in which WWE will use Lesnar without Cena makes the situation worth waiting for.
