Brock LesnarAfter a memorable ‘Beast in the East’ Show from Tokyo, it is now time for another episode of Monday night Raw. The television ratings of Raw took a big blow last week and Vince McMahon will be looking to bounce right back up from the drop. There is still two weeks till Battleground and this gives the company enough time to make up for the mistakes they made during the weeks that went by.Most of the fans will be shaking off their Holiday mood in time for Raw, and this makes the task even harder for WWE. With that said, here is a look at the possible angles that WWE should touch upon on this week’s Monday Night Raw.
#5 The usual random bookings
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
Every week, WWE brings you a handful of random matches. These are matches that have no storyline backup, no narrative motive and no explanation whatsoever.
The bookers just put two wrestlers together and ask them to pull off a match just like that. Last week, we have Sheamus vs. Neville and two more matches that I cannot remember, which, by the way, is the major problem with such matches.
They are fun while they last and once they end, we have no memory of such matches happening at all. WWE will come up with similar bouts this week also since they have to fill in three hours of television, even though the attention span of a typical fan is a maximum of five minutes at a stretch.
#4 Chaotic Divas
The chaotic Divas division is getting stretched as each week passes by. Paige trying to win the war against the Bellas is the main storyline here but WWE has tried almost all the possible permutations with the available talent. What they now need is the injection of something fresh.
At ‘Beast in the East’, Tamina, Nikki and Paige worked in a Triple Threat match. This might indicate the inclusion of Tamina and Naomi into the war between Paige and Bella. If not, we could witness the addition of the much-anticipated NXT divas into the mix since WWE is desperate to pick up their television ratings which touched the bottom last week.
#3 Cat fight mode: On
Two ladies in tight cloths having a full blown cat fight. The mental image might take you back to the Attitude Era, but unfortunately, Lana and Summer Rae are finding it hard to connect due to the bad narration.
There is no chemistry between Dolph Ziggler and Lana and Rusev seems to be out of place. Summer Rae looks good in the scenario but then again, why is she amid all these chaos in the first place? In short, it is a messed up angle and all the four superstars involved are wasted big time. Despite this, we could get to see Lana wrestle and that is a prospect worth looking forward to.
#2 Swiss Superman\'s introduction
The Feud between Kevin Owens and John Cena saw yet another excellent segment last week. Some fans might saw their displeasure in the ending of the Cesaro vs. Cena bout, but trust me, it was the perfect ending. By making Kevin Owens interfere, WWE achieved many positives. They made Cesaro look good, they kept the title on John Cena and at the same time, they made Owens look more intense.
Cesaro now has a reason to go after Owens which in turn opens the door for a Triple Threat match between these three excellent workers. A recent poster leak suggests the same for SummerSlam and it would be interesting to see how WWE incorporates Cesaro into the feud ahead of Battleground.
#1 Desperation from WWE
As mentioned earlier, WWE experienced their worst rating in a long time last week. Despite the stats, the closing segment of last week’s show was pretty solid. Seth Rollins looked strong for the second consecutive week and it somehow helped to build his momentum ahead of Battleground.
But the question is: will WWE bring out Brock Lesnar due to sheer desperation? Lesnar is someone who could boost the ratings so it would not be a surprise if WWE uses Lesnar on Raw. When Lesnar comes, what happens to the momentum of Seth Rollins? What happens to Dean Ambrose? Can we see an association between Dean and Lesnar now that they are against the Authority? It is questions like these which make the main event angle exciting.
