During a week that is all about the build up to Extreme Rules for the main roster, NXT thrived in its own little world with some great storytelling and matches. It helps that the show is pre- taped and they air quite a few weeks late. This weeks broadcast had some moments worth talking about as all of the most talked about performers were a part of this show. NXT, without much surprise, came out looking as the best show WWE had to offer this week. So without further ado, here are the five points to note from this week’s show-
#1 The Actual Main Event
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
The women’s division is the consistenty most entertaining aspect of NXT. There are so many performers to pay attention to, to care about and the matches they produce have been shocking with respect to the work WWE makes the women on the main roster do. This week Charlotte, Becky Lynch and Bayley competed in a triple threat match to determine the number-one contender for the NXT women’s Championship.
Becky Lynch won and set up a match with her former teammate Sasha Banks, who wasn’t really welcoming of that outcome.
This gives the women’s division another performer to absolutely pay attention to after Charlotte and Sasha Banks are promoted to the main roster.
#2 A Finn Balor sighting
The night began with Finn Balor, who is rumored to make his main roster debut soon, making his way to the ring for a squash match against Tyler Dillinger. It was great to see the Irishman back after the recent European tour he did with the main roster. This squash indicated a fresh start for Finn Balor after he lost his title match to Kevin Owens a few weeks back. And Tyler Breeze’s promo made it clear what Balor’s next feud is going to be.
There may be rumors swirling all around but it’s great that Balor is still working in NXT and hasn’t yet made his venture in the main roster where momentum and storylines are messed up with frequently.
#3 Corrections
Last week was not CJ Parker’s last match in NXT. He appeared this week as well. It’s been a few weeks since he left the company but seeing him now on television makes one just completely understand how leaving WWE was the most apt decision he could make about his career. He’s been there for 4 years, even before all this was known as NXT, back when it was known as FCW. He may be one of the few who’ve, since then, not appeared even once on the main roster. We could see what he felt about his time in the WWE- and that is a lack of hope.
#4 The Running Program
Seth Rollins, Stephanie McMahon and Triple H are the heels of the main roster but Kevin Owens is the heel that you should consider to be No. 1 when you think about the best heels in the company right now. Owens had another match against the ‘Voice of NXT’ Alex Riley. The Voice of NXT is not as annoying as the Voice of the WWE but having Owens beating up Riley or merely trash talking to him is something that will make you cheer for the heel.
Hopefully, that ends this seemingly temporary feud. It should become a running gag in the show, though.
#5 To be continued
Finally, the continuation of a well- awaited feud happened. Sami Zayn came to make the save for Alex Riley and teh sight of watching someone like Kevin Owens retreat away speaks volumes about his opponent and how interesting things are going to be.
The feud is back on and it’ll be interesting to see where it goes for both Zayn and Owens. Will Zayn get the upper hand in this feud. Will he be decimated again by powerbomb after powerbomp by his former best friend? Or will Kevin Owens be on the recieving end of a Zayn attack? Will Owens take his first ever pinfall?
