Eva Marie is still undefeatedThis was a show which albeit brief had its usual bouts of entertainment and build up for next week. Storylines are important when it comes to NXT and so are their female performers. When Dana Brooke and Emma talked about the women's locker room in NXT to Asuka, you damn well knew that it’s a tough place to be given all the variety of personalities that it has right now. This week the Dusty Rhodes Classic continued and so did Eva Marie’s ‘All Red’ Journey. Also, it was amusing and interesting to see an Eva marie fan stand right next to the most famous bayley fan- Izzy. Eva even went and greeted her fan. Here are the 5 points to note from this weeks episode of NXT.
#1 An Eva Marie match
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
You have to watch an Eva Marie match to know what the brouhaha around her is all about.
Of course, she gets plenty of reactions. Some are fans but the boos always overpower the cheers. She’s improved a lot, but she still looks a bit rickety while doing moves much like when she tried to do a simple suplex in the middle of the match.
She’s embraced her heel role, but. That’s a good sign. She won via count out and continued her controversial journey. She needs to work on her trash-talking, though. Saying ‘How You Doin?’ at her opponent and the audience mockingly is fine since that’s what her opponents catachphrase is. But there should be some energy to it. Saying it the way she did does make that moment go away without having an impact.
#2 The princess of Staten Island
What should be noted from the opening match of NXT this week is the performance of Carmella.
She shows all the influence of being part of the Enzo Amore and Big Cass team. She also quite comfortable in pulling off all the moves that she had to execute. She sold well too. Additionally, she worked quite well as a babyface and seemed visibly more confident in doing her act that her opponent Eva Marie.
Her bouts of excitement, moonwalking were all entertaining.
#3 Asuka
Firstly, the ‘U’ in her name is silent. Secondly, it was a bit confusing how to react seeing one of the most fierce performers ever walk out so excitedly for her contract signing.
But in retrospect, it’s believable since this is her official welcome to a new place, new audience and something she welcomed equally. Of course, she won’t be using the mic much but what followed after the signing is where the story lies.
Dana Brooke and Emma walked in as the resident mean girls of NXT. And they eventually asked Asuka to leave which the hugely successful japanese star did. But, wait for it, she paused momentarily as she reached the end of the ramp, looked back and gave one of the most wicked smiles ever. That is the most special thing that Asuka brings to the world of WWE- the pure magic of visual details.
That wicked smile just sold the intrigue of what Asuka can do for weeks to come.
#4 The fifference maker
Well, how great is it to see Blake and Murphy make their way to the ring for the match?
Answer- not that much when Alexa Bliss is not around. her presence monumentally increases your curiosity as you want to know how she’ll make a difference in making her team win. And her work is partially what makes you want Blue Pants to come and be the equalizer.
And she did, to the pleasant surprise of the audience, given that Leva Bates isn’t really signed for many appearances.
#5 Next weeks Dusty Rhodes Classic
Next week the most over tag team in NXT Enzo Amore and Big Cass take on NXT champ Finn Balor and Samoa Joe.
The promos both teams gave out backstage separately were interesting. Amore is so comfortable when he speaks, it’s as if he was born with the quality of making anything and everything sound entertaining.
Balor delivered his lines as he was supposed to and Joe was as comfortable as Amore when it came to hyping up a match. What was interesting was when Joe patted Balor’s championship that unsettled Balor a bit. Next week sure does seem interesting.
