Nia Jax is doing what she does best – being an unstoppable forceThis episode was hyped for the fact that we were going to get a triple threat match in the main event to determine the number one contender for Balor’s title.Nia Jax returned to the ring while Alexa Bliss, Emma, Dana Brooke, and Carmella had something to do or say on the show. Jordan and Gable had another great performance to boast of.The main event, though, was the highlight of the episode with both Zayn and Samoa Joe mired in controversy that even William Regal couldn’t figure out how to deal with. Here are the 5 points to note from this weeks episode of NXT-
#5 Moving ahead
Berserk camera movements accompanied Blake and Murphy’s entrance which fits their theme song. Though Jordan and Gable were really good heels, the NXT arena is all into their face gimmick of being ‘American Alpha’.
The face team, of course, showcased some of their amateur wrestling background skills. Especially Chad Gable, who put on a display of his technical ability, speed, and agility. It was all Gable until Murphy supposedly hurt his own knee, causing a distraction for the referee and Gable, and then turned the entire momentum in their favor.
And just when we thought Gable was the showstopper, Jordon got the hot tag and Suplexed, tossed and hurled everyone. His raw power got the match to its crescendo and that led to his team defeating their third former tag team champions.
#4 Lucky or not
They’re using one of the best heel groups in NXT to build Carmella into a serious contender for Bayley.
Dana Brooke and Emma are too good in their roles and it’s great to see – especially Brooke, improve so much in her backstage interviews. She rendered the interviewer unimportant, called Carmella’s recent performances ‘lucky’ and ended it all with her simple yet significant head tap.
Both of them were quite sure that Carmella is not a big challenge to Bayley let alone Emma, who faces The Princess from Staten Island next week.
#3 Back to the ring
Nia Jax returned to the ring for the first time after her match with Bayley at Takeover: London.
She was accompanied to the ring by Eva Marie and tt seemed Jax was here for another squash as she faced NXT newcomer Liv Morgan.
Though Morgan did get some offence in, it was no match to Jax’s raw power and the match ended in a few minutes. Jax is obviously unaware about Marie’s happiness in not having her in the battle Royale two weeks ago. Their alliance continues, at least, for the time being.
#2 Amore\'s promo
Enzo Amore is such a great promo worker, it’s a fact set in stone. The guy can’t get even a word wrong.
After Carmella gave a very short, typical promo about how she’s going to beat Emma, Big Cass turned to talking about his mortal enemies Dash and Dawson and after he was done, the best part dawned upon us.
Amore’s style of talking has never been boring. He can read the phone directory and still make it sound interesting.
He talked about how he did not have a merry Christmas and how he doesn’t give a darn about the tag team champs – it’s all about getting those titles. Simple yet made significant by Amore’s style of promo delivery.
#1 Main Event Time
Now we move on to the main event which was made two weeks ago. Sami Zayn, Samoa Joe and Baron Corbin faced each other to determine who’s going to be the next contender for Balor’s title.
Samoa Joe walking to the ring with his badass theme song had bad news written all over his face. Zayn’s theme music, though, has the exact opposite written all over it. Corbin may call himself the uncrowned NXT Champion, but this match did little to justify that claim.
It was all about Zayn and Joe trying to better each other. So much so that the match ended when both of them had Corbin locked in a submission move. Zayn had the sharpshooter locked in and Joe had the cross face.
Corbin tapped out but confusion prevailed. Regal wanted to review the tape to see who the number one contender is, but at the end of it, Regal was as confused as the fans. Guess we have to tune in next week to find out
