Somebody in the WWE backstage might have read the book about ‘How to Make WWE Payback more interesting’ because there is no other logical explanation for the WWE’s creative team coming up with the idea of fatal four way at the pay-per-view.The introduction of Dean Ambrose has not only raised the stakes at the show but has also added some new layers to the championship picture. From the never ending friction between the Shield members to the Authority’s presence, a lot of subplots are worth following in the match but at the end of the day, what everyone is concerned about is the ending. So here is a look at the possible ways in which the newly announced fatal four way match could end.
#6 Honorable Mention: A Shield Reunion
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
This is a very long shot in terms of how things stand now and is basically a fantasy scenario. Shield reunites, attacks Orton, Orton recruits Adrian Neville and Sami Zayn, a feud between the stable follows. Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose then go on to win the Intercontinental and United States Championship, making them the top guns in the company.
Brock Lesnar returns, and has to go through both Ambrose and Reigns to get to Seth. Okay, this is sounding a bit ridiculous, so let’s leave it right here and take a look at the ‘actual’ possible endings.
#5 Ambrose does the unthinkable
Seth Rollins has been receiving a lot of criticism for his championship reign. There is a common impression that he fails to draw as the top star and this might force WWE to take the title away from him until Brock Lesnar returns.
And looking into the three wrestlers that WWE have in the mix, Dean Ambrose is probably the best candidate to get a short run with the title. He has a long history with Rollins and fans would not mind seeing these two fight it out in a one on one match at Money in the Bank.
Money in the bank could then see Rollins winning the title once again and setting up the Summerslam clash with Brock Lesnar.
#4 The second expendable, Randy Orton
The second option to win the title after Ambrose is obviously Randy Orton. Roman Reigns winning at this point would completely derail the momentum he has and will in the end result in a botched reign altogether.
Orton on the other hand is a baby face that the fans root for. There are also a lot of people out there who wants to see Orton face Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam, and if he wins at Payback, the possibility will materialize. The chances of the title changing hands as mentioned in this one and the previous one are low to be frank, but since we are dealing with the creative team that did a lot of stupid things in the near past, we never know.
#3 Oh, the Authority
The Authority has been having a big say in almost all the WWE Championship matches in recent past. As a result, Kane even has a cult image among the internet fan base for being an interference God. However, the problem with fatal four way matches is that, there are no particular rules.
Even if the Authority gets involved, the match will continue, ensuring some utter chaos. One thing that could still happen is the Authority helping Rollins to win the match. Not the Authority that has Kane and J & J security, the authority called Triple H.
Some direct involvement from Hunter could result in a possible Hunter vs. Dean Ambrose or Hunter vs. Roman Reigns feud and this could run all the way to SummerSlam as another major program.
#2 The greatest trick of the devil
Lesnar is not supposed to return till SummerSlam but do you know what the greatest trick that the devil pulled off? It was convincing the world that he didn’t exist. No one would be expecting to see Lesnar at Payback and this makes it the best situation for him to come down and make a statement.
WWE has lined up all the major superstars in the running for WWE championship in one fine place for Lesnar to destroy and knowing Lesnar, he would not have much trouble doing the same. It would sell the suspense angle if Lesnar comes out without the Authority’s permission or we could also have Lesnar working for Triple H, which turns Seth Rollins a baby face.
#1 The chicken champion again
Take out the authority and Brock Lesnar from the picture and what we have in our hands is four excellent performers who can blow the roof off. The fatal four way match will surely be a crowd pleaser at the end of the day and if WWE wants to keep the ending clean without much interferences, then Rollins being the Ultimate opportunist is the best path.
He could keep a low profile throughout the match and then pounce on one of the efforts made by other names. For instance, he could pin Dean Ambrose after Ambrose is knocked out by Ortons RKO or so on. The ending would fit perfectly with the current theme and also keep Rollins fresh for Lesnar.
