Extreme Rules did not turn out to be one of those pay-per-views that provided the stage for individual performances. There was a certain lack of proper booking written all over the matches and apart from a couple of names, almost all the superstars were just swimming with the flow. With SummerSlam approaching pretty fast, the lack of brilliant individual performances is something that the company needs to change in their next pay-per-view outing, Payback. And thankfully for them, there are some potential names placed in a perfect position to shine at the show on May 17, 2015 at the Royal Farms Arena in Baltimore and here is a look at those superstars.
#5 Lana
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
With the rumors floating about Vince McMahon being high on Lana, the ravishing Russian is sure to play a big role in the Payback match between John Cena and Rusev. There have been some problems between Lana and Rusev from WrestleMania itself and if WWE decides to end the relationship once and for all at Payback, then it will be the lottery for her.
It will probably mark the end of Rusev’s dominant run in the main roster but then again, the future will be bright for his girlfriend. Lana costing Rusev the match is the most likely scenario that could happen and if it does, she will start her ascension to the top of the divas division, even if she is not a wrestler.
#4 Damien Sandow
Damien Sandow finally broke out from his Miz cocoon recently and looks all set to shine as an original character. There will be traits of the stunt double outing here and there down the road, but with the talent that Mizdow, Sandow has, he can climb up the ladder in no time.
The last time we saw Sandow, he was running around with Curtis Axel and even if WWE doesn’t give him a different opponent at Payback, it wouldn’t be a big problem. The duo was immensely entertaining during their time together and could deliver a similar outing under pay-per-view spotlight. A credible feud, on the other hand, would be even better for the former tag team champion.
#3 Seth Rollins
Isn’t the inclusion of Seth Rollins in this list, obvious? He has been producing great performances ever since he broke away from the Shield and things have gotten even better once he got his hands on the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.
The chemistry between Randy Orton and Rollins is no secret and it was there to be seen in their Extreme Rules Match as well. The dynamics between Reigns and Rollins is also similar, which in turn allows Rollins to bring out his best game at the show. From the looks of it, Rollins might walk out of Payback with the championship, and this will further cement his place as a top performer.
#2 Bad News Barrett
WWE’s latest King of the Ring outing received a lot of criticism since it was rushed. However, one superstar who got benefited from the whole chaos is Bad News Barrett. Even though the tournament lacked in credibility, Barrett is the new King in WWE and WWE is not going to let the King be outshined in the next pay-per-view.
If Daniel Bryan makes his return in time for Payback, then Bryan is the favorite to face Barrett. This opens up the door for the Brit to be Intercontinental champion, which makes a lot of sense since Bryan is struggling with injury. Even if Barrett loses, WWE will protect him, just for the sake of selling their Network since the whole crowning process happened there.
#1 Roman Reigns
There were a couple of names mentioned that stood out at Extreme Rules earlier and Roman Reigns belongs to that small list. Along with Big Show, Reigns lived up to the name of the pay-per-view perfectly and managed to win over a dead crowd with pure extreme work.
WWE is hell bound in rebranding the image of Reigns after what happened in the road to WrestleMania and so far they have been in the right path. The Triple Threat will be another opportunity for Reigns to push his case about being a top star in the company and he is not going to let it slip away just like that.
Reigns might not go on to win the match at the show, but he will certainly win some hearts, which, by the way, is what the company wants him to do.
