WWE Payback: 5 things that went wrong

The stocks of WWE were dipping and the company was struggling to give the fans what they wanted when they were hosting their latest pay-per-view venture, Payback. And due to that, there was a lot of pressure on the WWE creative to put up a great show at Payback. However, certain things didnt turn out well as the creative team planned. The fact that it all unfolded in Chicago magnified the errors to a paramount issue. The errors made in the pay-per-view is not something that the WWE Universe will forget anytime soon so here is a look at the five most crucial mistakes that the company did on Sunday.

#5 Big E getting squashed

New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE

Rusev has been in the main roster for quite some time and during his time what he did was squash the jobbers that the company threw at him.

Then WWE did a smart move by having Big E confront Rusev as the fans thought that the Bulgarian brute is going to have a credible feud now.

Apparently it didn’t turn out that way as the company decided to book Big E like most of Rusev’s opponents.

For a guy who just lost the intercontinental title, it was surely a bad booking and it also dropped the hint that they have more faith in Rusev. But they could’ve at least given a long enough match which could’ve given both men a chance to shine.

#4 Kane attacking Kofi Kingston

Just when we thought that we were going to see Bo Dallas get a pay-per-view win, Kane decided to walk into the ring and cause a rampage.

And that too against Kofi Kingston who had nothing to do with the big red monster till now. So what was the point of making Kane attack Kofi and make Bo stand there like he wasn’t important at all?

It’s a question which WWE needs to address soon and precious PPV time wasn’t something which the company needed to waste for such a pointless segment.

If a feud between Kane and Kofi is at the horizon it will be a big drop for the monster that was having a great run with Daniel Bryan.

#3 Unwanted matches on the card

The segment that was mentioned earlier, the El Torito – Hornswoggle match, the Rhodes brothers- Rybaxel looked just as fillers in the pay-per-view when the company had many other better options.

The pre-show encounter lacked the excitement which it had at Extreme Rules due to the absence of the props. The tag team match was a been there done that scenario with the ending being the only positive. Bo Dallas didn’t even get a chance to wrestle in the PPV thanks to Kane.

WWE could’ve easily found Adam Rose a place in the card or even could’ve let the Usos and Wyatt Family fight for the tag titles. A good match between Layla and Summer Rae also could’ve been booked but WWE went for the decisions which didn’t make much sense.

#2 The Evolution burial ceremony

Shield was reigning as the top stable in WWE until Evolution decided to reunite to put an end to that reign. So the Evolution was supposed to be the biggest threat that the Shield faced in their career which sadly didn’t happen.

There were a lot of exchange between the Shield and Evolution prior to their match at Extreme Rules and both teams looked strong. After Extreme Rules the Shield was having the upper hand with their win.

Evolution struck back strong during the next buildup but didn’t prove their worth inside the ring where it matter the most. Thus one of the most celebrated factions in the WWE took two consecutive losses making their reunion look like something which went pointless.

There might not be a third phase to this feud with Batista leaving which makes it worse for Hunter’s team.

#1 Slaying the Monster

The last man standing match between John Cena and Bray Wyatt had enough fire power to make Bray into a bigger name in the company.

He could’ve simply been crowned as the top heel in the company if Cena had put him over but the WWE let Bray lose and that too in front of the fans in Chicago. It’s the same situation that came after WrestleMania all over again as Bray is left with a lot to explain.

Now, he is just someone who can’t back up his words especially after the way in which he at Extreme Rules. So it’s Cena-2 Wyatt -1 in the feud so far and the only win that Bray picked up came after Cena was denied victory almost 10 times by Erick Rowan and Luke Harper.

Even after Bray captivates the crowd with his words, the bad booking inside the ring is costing him and his character which is priceless at the current landscape.
