WWE Payback: Talking points from the PPV

Okay, so as far back as I can remember, this is the second edition of Payback and for the second time in a row it has been held in Chicago. Paul Heyman, again, took the baton first and before introducing Cesaro, he reminded the crowd about his former clients and hence agin told the Chicago crowd that Punk was not present and that he was infact watching a hockey match the Blackhawks were competing in.This was followed by a really good match which really did not have any losers. Both Sheamus and Cesaro had a nice little match. The night saw some other impressive matches too with The Shield and Evolution ending the night on a really high note. Cena and Wyatt also impressed many, though many would complain about Cena always becoming Super Cena to conquer monsters of the calibre of Wyatt but I dont think there has beeany monster of that calibre in the WWE lately. The only thing I take away from this feud, the only silver lining, is Wyatts performance- which has been consistently spectacular on the mic and improved a lot in the ring. Bad News Barrett looks much more entertaining in this gimmick. Its either his accent or the way he delivers them bad news.Anyway, here are the 11thoughts that occured to me while I was watching the recent edition of Payback.

#1 Those ring steps can be dangerous

New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE

I’ve never really found ring steps attention worthy. But the one moment that stood out during Cena Vs Wyatt was when Cena threw the ring steps from inside the ring towards Bray Wyatt outside. Wyatt survived that shot. But, by, was that something!

#1 WWE have world class knowledge about how to start things (feuds) with a bang and end them with a whimper.

They could have had a compelling feud with Big E and Rusev, instead they had Big E tap out to the Bulgarian Brute in a matter of seconds in an already short match. Same with paieg and Alicia Fox. Although the match was decent, her post match meltdown was cut short and made the entire build up seem very anti climatic. Also Cena won.

#2 Paul Heyman Can NEVER Be Boring

If the cameras only focus on Paul Heyman for an entirety of Raw or a pay per view, it will be far more must see television than what the WWE does with many of its promising superstars.

#4 As far as RVDs educated feet go, Bad News Barretts powerful kicks did the talking tonight.

The commentators spoke at length about RVD’s ‘educated feet’ so much so that JBL finally asked “Can they read?” But Barrett’s kick made one heck of a noise. He endured quite a lot from RVD too, but the most emphasis put in this match was on, you know, the educated feet. So Barrett wasn’t too bewildered by that afterall. Also Bad News Barrett as a gimmick has caught up.

I’m afraid that’s some good news for you, Barrett.

#4 Big Es spear to Rusev >>>> any Roman Reigns spear.

The one of three shining moments of the disappointing match apt for the first point of the list. Second one being Rusev’s kick and the third one being Lana’s fury.

#5 Chants that might forever remain in the WWE- Eddie, CM Punk and We Want Ziggler

Considering WWE now rarely, if ever, puts Ziggler in relevant bouts the crowd might forever be left to wait for the ShowOff to finally show up.

#6 I think, I think, Brie Bella is the only performer in the WWE whos ever slapped Stephanie McMahon

Stephanie McMahon has slapped her mother, her father and her brother. She has slapped an array of superstars and divas but as far back as I can remember Brie Bella is the only one to have slapped Stephanie. You see, nobody says ‘You’re Fired’ as and to Vince McMahon and nobody slaps like Stephanie. That’s, like, their trademark.

#7 That entrance made for quite a starry moment for Bray Wyatt.

The arena lighted up, literally. Bray Wyatt had a shiny entrance and a starry night. he had his best individual match since Royal Rumble. Even if he lost, his star is too bright to be buried bu SuperCena’s victory

#8 Alicia Fox is a spectacle.

Even though her post match antics were cut short, she singlehandedly carried the build up to the match with paige and she was the must see performer of the match. In any other era, the amount f offence that Paige took would have guaranteed a huge pop, but instead Alicia Fox seemed to have the most attention and aggression.

#9 Ambrose knows how to make a dramatic save.

The guy will be doing some really ordinary moves throughout a match but will come up with something extraordinary whenever needed. Also he was rolling and jumping more than usual.

#10 Now I know Roman Reigns is facing Triple H SOON

Ever since they debuted in their Shield gear, I’ve seen Ambrose topless, Seth Rollins topless and it seems like the WWE were saving Reigns till the right moment and so the moment came at the heels of the most evident push that this superstar is receiving. As if the extreme close ups of his face, slow build up to his moves and the hot tags he gets were not enough to show what the management thinks about him, he got to keep his foot over Triple H’s body.

And I just hope Batista and his team are not feeling too ‘blue’ after that loss.
