Raw emanated from the United Kingdom and as all us ardent fans are aware, it is a hardcore audience that WWE has to deal with this week. John Cena was at the helm of the night, kicking off the show and the crowd gave him a musical response- one that we’ve witnessed already in previous hardcore arenas. It’s awesome, though, that the musical ‘John Cena Sucks’ chant is catching up.It was a show that made the best out of its English talents. Bad News Barrett and Paige got quite an ovation, undoubtedly. Here are the five promising developments from this weeks show:
#5 The Open Challenge continues
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
Another week, another round of an Open Challenge. John Cena came to a rousing negative reaction highly expected from the UK crowd and kept his promisie to issue an Open Challenge for the US Title.
Outcame Bad News Barrett to probably the biggest pop of the night. Barrett will always be a hero here. Always!
They wrestled a breathtaking match and this made Barrett look better than anytime he was an Intercontinental Champion. This, right here, the wrestling is where Barrett thrives. This is how you showcase the brawler that he’s known to be.
#4 Paige Wins
Paige won the Divas battle Royal to become the No. 1 contender for the Divas Championship. It was a welcome result to the fans in her ‘house’. This will be Paige’s third title match in 2 months and the past two matches were one of the better matches for the division in quite some time. The last match between Nikki Bella and Paige ended in quite a frenzy and produced one of the most interesting and entertaining angles on the Road to Wrestlemania.
Paige winning was also fairly surprising as Naomi was expected to win after the momentum she had gained by getting wins over The Bellas.
After we thought that this was it for the women for the night, out came a shocker!
#3 Heel Turn! Alert! Heel Turn!
Naomi interrupted Paige’s promo in not the dainty, polite way we would expect from her. She straight up rampaged the 22 year old. And that too in the UK!!
If that isn’t a solid heel turn then what is? This also establishes the fact that WWE is getting serious about making the Women’s Division much more relevant and giving it the attention that it needs and deserves.
Naomi may have just gotten the breakthrough in her wrestling career as this heel turn quickly rejuvenates her gimmick and kicks off more feuds.
#2 Another great week for Neville
Dolph Ziggler had his own version of an open challenge. This one was just for a great wrestling match and that call was answered by the man who gravity forgot. Neville came out much to the delight of the crowd and presented the enticing prospect of a match against another spectacular performer.
This was the third week where Neville walked in to have a stellar match to showcase his capabilities. Though, all of this presented a bigger picture- a platform for Sheamus to show his heel-ness. He stood true to his words and went on to lay out Ziggler and Neville.
#1 Rollins is still a great heel
WWE is doing well with Rollins’ character of being a spoiled little brat. It was funny what they laid out as furniture in the ring for Rollins and J & J Security. Although, all of this soon led to Orton and the champion having a typical confrontation. The stipulation introduced by Rollins will be key to a win at Extreme Rules as he barred Orton from using the RKO. In turn, Orton made it a steel cage match to keep The Authority out of the scene. We all know how the effectiveness of a cage has dwindled over the years, though.
