Lesnar giving Cole a pat on the backThis wasn’t a great show but it was certainly memorable. It had a second consecutive Brock Lesnar appearance and despite the great wave of momentum and the indomitable gimmick he plays, it was surprising to see the last segment of the night. It was not the ideal situation you would have expected Lesnar to succumb to, but he did. This week saw the continuation of the Wyatt- Reigns feud and the Owens- Cena feud, none of which seemed as perfect as they did some time back. The former played out in a much better way. Here are the 5 promising developments from this week's show:
#1 Paul Heyman is back
Last week was more about Lesnar returning and staring down Rollins. This week was more about Heyman making a return on the mic and making an apology sound intimidating. Lesnar apologized in his own way to JBL and Michael Cole and then Heyman, as great as he is, went on to list all the qualities that Seth Rollins has displayed throughout the past one year.
Paul Heyman certainly knows how to engage the audience with everything that is going on in the WWE right now. Not only did he ever so masterfully put over his client, he even put over Seth Rollins as a masterful heel. This will come into play later in the night when Lesnar and Rollins meet again.
#2 Reality Era
So, the Reality Era-esque elements came into the foreground with the Bray Wyatt and Roman Reigns feud. Unlike any other opponent Wyatt has faced till now, this seems to be a better match for a good feud. They are two of the most protected superstars in the WWE right now, so it’ll be interesting to see what happens in this feud, who comes out on top.
Wyatt has been targeting Reigns daughter in some way or the other since the past few weeks. This is a disturbing element which fits Wyatt’s character. This heel-ness may work in babyface Reigns’ favor.
#3 Xavier Woods
If you watvhed the recent ESPN documentary on NXT, you might have noticed that Xavier Woods is trying to be the first WWE wrestler to earn a PhD. That’s a monumental ambition since as a wrestler he’s always on the road, so when does he get the time to study. But Woods is Triple H’s priority project. That puts the spotlight firm on him.
And on Raw, you usually know why. Because he’s fun when it comes to playing his character. his constant jabs, utterances at ringside are particularly entertaining. Even if the match in the ring works or not, his managorial skills are superb.
He’s a great ringside player.
#4 Neville
Neville is someone who consistently entertains when he’s in the ring. His moveset is amazing. It gets a dull crowd to react. His moves can even follow a showstealer of a match, like he did at Payback.
His match against Kofi Kingston provided for one of the better moments of the night. This wasn’t a great show. This show did not have much overall, all- round development of storylines that we can call particularly entertaining.
But this match was good, with Woods’ ringside performance and Neville’s and Kingston’s ringwork. Apart from that, these people are not necessarily involved in an engaging storyline at the moment.
#5 Seth Rollins
Rollins proved why he’s the premier heel on Raw. On a night when nobody really gave him much of a chance. And in a phase where it looks like he’ll be turning babyface soon, he emerged to be as opportunistic as he has been built up to in the past one year. He apologized to Kane and J & J Security but when the beast came to take his case, Kane and his security team left him high and dry only to come back and become a team again.
Lesnar took care of the number game advantage that Rollins had, only to succumb later on. That was the first time in a long, forgotten time since we saw Lesnar like that.
