Saying that the first Raw episode of the year was stellar would be a major overstatement. The night began with the returning Authority and a not so enthusiastic crowd. It was a dull, dull night. But there were some major storyline developments which will have some major consequences in the future. The Authority made sure that dark times lay ahead of the WWE Universe. Here are the five promising developments for the very near future.

#5 Cena In A Spot

New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE

The entire ‘John Cena Appreciation Night’ was the most ironic and sardonic thing that WWE could pull off. It was actually brilliant. Throughout the night, Cena was celebrated while actually he began the night by apologizing for not keeping his promise of never bringing back the Authority.

It was just a losing battle. He was helpless enough to bring back the Authority and because of him his teammates got the ire of McMahon and Helmsley, who immediately fired Ziggler, Rowan and Ryback.

This was the night where in the name of appreciation he was put down to a spot from where he couldn’t get up.

#4 Some more bad news

Bad News Barrett is back to being the Intercontinental Champion. Surely, he wasn’t able to put away Ziggler easily.

Ziggler is a fighter and a fighting champion won’t be such an easy, done deal. Barrett lost the originally set up match but won after Kane interfered and made it a 2 out of 3 falls match. The Authority again cost Ziggler his title. First, it was harper and now Barrett.

The IC title picture hasn’t suffered yet, though.

#3 The end of Wyatt - Ambrose

After various gimmick matches, it looks like the Wyatt-Ambrose feud has seen the last of these gimmick matches and the last of this feud which had begun to wear out. Ambrose and Wyatt could have had a timeless, enthralling feud but the Creative just didn’t give them much material to play around with.

Ultimately it became sort of a blood feud. They weren’t even given the proper time for their charismatic personalities to shine through their promos.

But, thankfully, hopefully, it saw its conclusion.

#2 Triple Threat match

The Royal Rumble main event has turned into a Triple Threat match. That’s well done, considering Rollins already holds the Money In The Bank briefcase. There won’t have been any expectation or excitement because Rollins already has an opportunity to become the champion. This really changes the stakes because, it might be expected that Rollins can legitimately win the championship.

What is also interesting is that Paul Heyman shaked Rollins’ hand a few weeks ago and welcomed The Authority back and now hi client has to face Rollins and maybe stands to lose as well.

#1 Building up for Sting\'s arrival

Sting has been appropriately called a vigilante by the WWE. The Authority returned in full force on Raw and went on to stomp their authority all over the place. It was domination from the start to finish of raw.

It was better than Anonymous Raw General Manager and Ho Ho Hogan and it is better to have The Authority who is a very vilified unit. They really do earn the heat that they get and deserve.

The entire night saw them take each member of Team Cena one by one and then firing everyone except Cena at the end of the night. This is the perfect set up for Sting to come back. For once, Cena won’t be the Superhero who rescues the Universe.
