The Beast was hereThis was more or less one of the better episodes of Raw this year. It comes after a few weeks of continuous rating dips. The main event of the night, hence, saw the biggest star of the of the company right now.Brock Lesnar was also in the building. As Battleground nears, this may be the best build up this PPV has seen in the last two years of its inception. Lesnar’s participation, John Cena’s US title defence, Owens’ quest and Rollins cowardice are all part of what is making Battleground look like an event to watch out for. Here are the 5 promising developments from Raw last night-
#1 John Cena is the man!
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
You may differ in your opinion but the best thing happening in pro wrestling today is the John Cena US Title Open Challenge. This challenge has been producing most of the best matches this year and last night produced the best match so far. That is no small feat. You dont really want to put the other matches over one another but this one last night stood out from the rest by a mile. Cesaro is the guy with the best chemistry with Cena right now. Their matches have always gotten better with time.
Owens interrupted and for a change showed an interest in answering Cenas challenge but Cesaro put his foot down and asked owens to buzz off.
Cena stood tall at the end of the night, not letting Owens interfere and putting over Cesaro big when Raw went off air.
#2 Roman Reigns Project
This is another week with no complaints about how Reigns is being booked. His feud with Wyatt has been good so far and his matches with Sheamus have been equally good. Sheamus and Reigns can have a great feud in the future, for sure.
But right now, Battleground also benefits from the fact that this feud is also a part of its buildup.
It also benefits both the young superstars involved. The mind games have been short and significant. This week the lights went off during this really good match but all that appeared was a Bray Wyatt stunt double.
#3 Rusev
Okay, so the Rusev- Lana saga has been completely and utterly dragged on into something inexplicable. It started off well. Lana was the one directing Rusev to go on destroying his opponents and Rusev followed her directions religiously. He lost to Cena- his first clean, pinfall loss and everything goes haywire. Lana goes from controller to being controlled. And she looks for a way out and turns babyface while Rusev plays the abusive, dominating partner.
But Dolph Zigglers presence in this storyline has been utterly redundant till now.
Rusev and Lana have acted well. Especially Rusev. Him taking off his boot and attacking Ziggler is a promising indication that hes back to wrestling.
If only, this storylines could end abruptly!
#4 The MVP
Speaking of Paul Heyman, the show began with him coming out and delivering a promo and hence making sure that he sells Battleground. And did he ever!
Paul Heyman called Brock Lesnar what many of his fans already caqll him. Brock Lesnar is not a God of love or charity. Brock Lesnar is a God of violent retribution. He was made to scare off people and he was made to destroy the despicable WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins.
Heyman came out and started the night on a high and made sure that we watch Battleground.
#5 RAW is Brock Lesnar
JBL was on point when he uttered, If the car could tap out, it would.
How perfect is Lesnar in playing a beast and how perfect is Seth Rollins in running away like a coward. Brock Lesnar hijacked Raw in Chicago. He decimated a car to pieces and looked unperturbed by the destruction that he had bestowed upon that vehicle.
Rollins called out Lesnar and asked him prove that hes more than Paul Heymans sidekick.
Brock Lesnar answered it like this. All Lesnar ever does is destruct and all Rollins has mostly done is run away. And its all still perfect.
