WWE Smackdown: 5 Promising Developments - December 16, 2014

Smackdown was live for a change. And it showed in plenty of ways why its two-hour format is much more focussed and hence better than the three-hour extravaganza that is Raw. It featured the company’s youngest stars in action via their promo skills or wrestling.It was a simple yet significant affair as the shorter format helped develop many feuds in a crisp fashion. The only thing that holds Smackdown back is the pre-recorded format, but this live program helped it immensely.Here are the five promising developments from last night’s Super Smackdown.

#5 A new feud brewing

Jimmy Uso isn’t a happy man as Miz is playing mind games with his opponent in the tag team picture by giving Naomi, Uso’s wife, many opportunities. One of those opportunities this week involved Naomi getting a shot at the Divas Championship but the fight that ensued between Jimmy Uso and Miz led Naomi to get distracted and hence she lost the match.

That isn’t going to sit well with Naomi. It furthers the tag team feud.

#4 The Showstopper

It hasnt been easy to find one opponent that Rollins hasnt had a great match with and it is hard to find one match where Ziggler hasnt performed like he always does. These two are the bestsellers in the WWE today and may as well be the greatest in the history of this company. And these two are bound to have great matches together, which they did a few hours ago on Smackdown.

Ziggler won his third Intercontinental title of the year and he won against Rollins. This gives the IC title and the Champion more credibility and his deserving rise and his improved win-loss record has made him one of the most relevant superstars of the year.

Fans are loving every bit of it.

#3 Seth Rollins is unstoppable

Rollins had a hellacious performance on display at TLC and then the next night on Raw, he was involved in the best possible moment and match of the entire night and then for the third night in a row, on Smackdown, he limped his way to compete in a match against Ryback which didn’t happen.

He was instead set to face Ziggler, which will be talked about in the next slide. For three nights in a row, Rollins delivered performances, each better than the other. This has to be commendable.

#2 Rusev and Ryback pass the first test

Ryback was set to face Seth Rollins and he was making his way to the ring when Rusev attacked him and delivered a vicious kicks to The Big Guy’s face to render him powerless besides the stage.

It is inevitably a match between two behemoths as far as physical strength goes. It is a match which will involve sheer dominant force more than any technical feat of in ring skills.

This first step towards their feud worked well.

#1 The little game between Wyatt and Ambrose

“The only reason you are still breathing right now is because I'm enjoying this little game of ours,” Bray Wyatt

Ambrose and Wyatt weren’t part of the televised part of Raw, but they took part in another Smackdown segment. As has been the trend, their feud has thrived on Smackdown. All of their brawls and segments have worked their way better on Smackdown than on Raw.

This week was no different. The feud is far from over. Wyatt wants to end Ambrose, precisely because he is becoming everyone’s hero and for someone who believes and wants the whole world in his hands, Wyatt will not stop until Dean Ambrose is diminished.
