For a two hour show, Smackdown didn’t bore. Their were some absentees in Seth Rollins, Kevin owens, Miz and Cesaro but the show was pretty compact. It had everything play out in its given time and not looked too dragged along, much like Raw.Every bout was given much time in the ring, if not then that was compensated with a backstage segment or a promo. Summerslam got one more match added to the card and we’re more or less certain now that Green Arrow will have an impact on StardustAll in all, it was a decent show. Here are the five points to note from this week-
#5 Summerslam
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
Roman Reigns opened the show with a promo. He proposed a tag team match for Summerslam which obviously involves two- thrids of The Shield and two- thirds of The Wyatt Family. Smackdown has been more or less a major platform to show Ambrose and Reigns united after the Shield split. No show has had them in as many tag matches as this show. This is where their relationship truly gets a lot more spotlight. Reigns called Ambrose his family before terming him as his ‘psychotic brother’.
The seeds have been planted for Summerslam.
Later on in the night, Bray Wyatt accepted the challenge.
#4 Creep-o-meter
No storyline this year has been as unsettling and embarassing as the Rusev- Lana saga. Their team was invincible and then WWE had to introduce a boyfriend- girlfriend angle. It took no time for it all to decimate into nothing-ness. Rusev is a great heel. Lana and Summer Rae are both great at playing characters. None of them are being utilized properly in this poor excuse for a ‘storyline’.
Also, Rusev called Summer his ‘Hot Summer’ and he said that tonight Reigns will be his ‘Lana’. Either that means that he’ll beat Reigns up thinking that he’s Lana which is unsettling or it means what Reigns thought of it- nothing at all.
#3 The Divas Tag Match
Before Charlotte’s match with Naomi, WWE aired a video package featuring The Nature Girl talking about what her goals are in the WWE. Ronda Rousey was mentioned and she talked about how Rousey is the highest grossing MMA fighter and that’s exactly the height she wants to take the main roster divas division to.
The singles’ match was soon turned into a tag match and it eventually was a good match, as has been the tradition.
Naomi, though, this time picked up the victory. I’m starting to believe that these tag matches are just for all nine women involved, to get at least one pinfall or a submission victory.
#2 Want some New Day
New Day is the strongest heel team in the WWE right now. For a team that made its debut as a babyface and not getting over, New Day has been a welcome addition to not only the tag division but even to the heel roster.
Their promo work is strong. It can get ridiculous, but it works perfectly well for their gimmicks.
And their feuding against the up and coming tag team The Prime Time Players, who’ve always been entertaining when given that much time and oppotunities.
#1 All the shines, is dust
Cody Rhodes as Stardust is a money gimmick if treated well by Creative. The man is really good at promos. That’s a really important skill to have. On Smackdown, he didn’t get much time to delve into the details but he’s fully living the gimmick. If you want to see what he’s capable of, just go and watch Michael Cole’s interview with him on WWE’s Youtube page.
That’s the most awesome interview that Rhodes’ has ever done.
It makes perfect sense and it gives his character some depth
