A few days ago WWE came out with a video compilation for the best quotes spoken inside the realm of the company in 2014. Needless to say, it wasn’t really a great compilation. It contained quotes from promos that weren’t great promos to begin with. Good promos naturally produce quotable quotes. And there were many promos that WWE had that could be considered from good to great in all the platforms that it produces. So, here are 10 other quotes that were great in the year 2014 -
#10 \"Hard work pays off, dreams come true. Bad times dont last, but BAD GUYS do\"
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
The first and original ‘Bad Guy’ returned to WWE television in years as he was inducted into the Hall Of Fame Class of 2014. His speech was short, it could very well have been cut because of time restraints. Even though Jake ‘The Snake’ Roberts had the most emotional and one of the greatest speeches ever, Hall surely spoke the best quote of the night. For the little amount of time that he was there, he threw his toothpick in his trademark style. he threw it at the camera, that was funny. And in the end, there was a Kliq reunion.
#9 \"Have we ever thrown someone out that didn\'t come back?\"- Stephanie McMahon
Stephanie McMahon, the most brilliant heel of the past year, spoke this in response to Triple H’s confused expression when she ordered security to lock Dean Ambrose inside a room. She rightfully stated that he was too much of a loose cannon and then came this very aforementioned logical quote.
It was the most obvious choice of words given the history WWE has with throwing out people from the arena at the beginning of the night.
FYI, Dean Ambrose still returned by the end of the night.
#8 \"I\'ll calm down when he\'s dead.\"Orton about Rollins.
This is the most apt line to come out of Randy Orton’s berserk and brilliant promo showcasing his frustrations with Seth Rollins and The Authority’s clear lack of attention. Seth Rollins clearly replaced Orton as the Golden Boy of The Authority after he won at Hell In A Cell and Orton lost. Orton’s promo was breathless and Triple H tried to calm him down and then Orton fired that quote at Triple H.
This promo turned Orton’s character into the highlight reel of the night and probably stole the show. Now that’s the Orton everyone wants to see.
#7 \"And Then were going to beat the hell outta you\"
Probably, the best Dean Ambrose promo that we’ve been graced with. We could see a bit of Jon Moxley in there. It came at the heels of Seth Rollins’ betrayal and kicked off what was arguably the feud of the year between Ambrose and Rollins.
This promo was brilliant. Reigns was good as well but Ambrose clearly displayed the emotions that someone who feels tremendously betrayed has. His deconstruction and description of rearranging Rollins’ face, him trying to calm himself down and then just before throwing the mic away, he speaks those words and that’s the crux of this promo.
#6 \"The beating that awaits John Cena is that of a Shakespearean tragedy.\"Heyman.
Paul Heyman, arguably, had the best promos ever last year. It’s hard to remember one promo where he wasn’t compelling. Even a bad promo by his standards is a good promo by any standard.
The aforementioned quote was spoken towards the build up of Brock Lesnar’s match against the champ John Cena. And how apt is this quote in retrospect?
Cena’s performance was that of a Shakespearean tragedy. The noble, virtuous hero recieved an end to his reign like no other way imaginable. He was truly decimated.
#5 You do not get to end me I end you and your story as NXT Champion
What a story that was!
For over a year a feud between these two babyfaces was building up. But then the overwhelming popularity of Zayn was clearly making the audience give a Neville a heel treatment and to his credit, he took on that slick personality that comes with it.
It culminated into the greatest NXT match and one of greatest of all time. the entire NXT arena lit up like theWrestlemania 30 main event arena and gave Zayn a rousing ovation.
It was a perfect show and a perfect feud.
#4 Excuse me, I came by to visit an old friend- Mick Foley
Mick Foley came and in a matter of few minutes kicked back life into the feud between Rollins and Ambrose. He sold the Hell In A Cell match, that too in the PG Era, as spectacularly as only he can. The arena gave him a rousing welcome and nobody can get a cheap pop as gracefully as he can. he makes cheap pops look so cool.
How apt was it to have Foley sell the brutality awaiting both Rollins and Ambrose? It was a brilliant premise to what was a really good match at the PPV. needless to say, both former Shield members main evented the night.
#3 \"That is when a man becomes a myth, its when a myth becomes a legend, its when a legend becomes a deity of biblical proportions.\"- Paul Heyman about the Undertaker
Here’s the whole quote for further detail- “Shawn Michaels, Triple H, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Hulk Hogan, John Cena, the biggest names in the history of WWE but you, Sir, Undertaker you’ve had 21 consecutive victories in 21 wrestlemania moments. That is when a man becomes a myth, it’s when a myth becomes a legend, it’s when a legend becomes a deity of biblical proportions. That is why I’m here to ask you not to step into the ring with Brock lesnar at Wrestlemania 30. “
Paul Heyman spoke in length and vivid detail about Undertaker’s greatness and then tore into him like a thousand flying daggers by building up why his client Brock Lesnar is going to be the one to break the streak.
And again, in retrospect, it was prophetic.
#2 If I burn, you burn, we all burn- Triple h to Randy Orton
This was possibly the most meaningful and best episodes of Raw. One story dominated the entire night and it was the story of the Survivor Series main event between Team Cena and Team Authority. Ziggler was built as an important element to this story. Orton was breaking down and the dissension in the Authority was crystal clear. This lead to Triple H speaking these lines and these words represent what the entire story was, succinctly.
#1 \"Every man\'s heart one day beats its final beat..\"
Every man's heart one day beats its final beat, his lungs breathe their final breath and if what that man did in his life makes the blood pulse through the body of others and makes them believe deeper in something larger than life, then his essence, his spirit will be immortalised. – Ultimate Warrior
This wasn’t a great promo that one was expecting from Ultimate Warrior who returned to WWE after years. But in the end, in retrospect, how prophetic was it?!!
He returned for the Hall Of Fame, made a Wrestlemania apperance, returned to Raw. And then he was gone. It shook the wrestling world. His untimely death made this quote have a very eerie feel to it. It gave it a whole new life and more importance.
