Throughout the rich history of the WWE, there have arguably been many great matches. Theyve had great matches on every PPV, many on Raw and some on Smackdown too. But there are always some moments or matches that you just cook up in your mind. Moments, if they actually take place in reality will make you go totally berserk. Or if they actually happened, it would have been in the best interest of the company from a business standpoint. Here are 5 matches that could have happened but did not.
#5 Sting Vs Undertaker
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
Sting has constantly maintained the statement that Vince McMahon has always been nice to him and there have been many opportunities over the years where he was persuaded to sign with the WWE. But nothing happened eventually. One strong argument Sting makes is that he never could trust the WWE about how he’ll be used, which is a very practical thing to say. Even today, it isn’t clear if he’ll ever step into the WWE ring, not for a match but even for a segment.
At this point in their careers, both Taker and Sting have seen the best of their wrestling capabilities. The reason why this match is last on the list is because there is still this teeny-tiny hope that they might have a match given Sting’s current scenario with the WWE.
#4 Sin Cara Vs Rey Mysterio
Rey Mysterio’s last run was not at all spectacular. But in the midst of it he did team up with Sin Cara which clearly raised hopes that they might split and face each other sometime soon. But that day never came. The original Sin Cara has been released from the WWE, while Rey Mysterio and WWE are still dealing with the issues surrounding his contract. This match could have happened, would have worked but it never really took off.
And now, the chances of it happening seem to be long gone.
#3 Beth Phoenix Vs Kharma
It looked like Kharma’s debut would be the turning point for a lacklustre divas division. Not many looked like Kharma’s equal as far as strength was concerned. It would have been foolish to assume that the Bellas or Kelly Kelly and the like would be able to score a win on Kharma by a roll up. If that happened, it would be a travesty, a terrible joke.
But her return produced no matches. She announced her pregnancy and went on a break and only made an appearance at the 2012 Royal Rumble, never to be seen again.
After her debut, only a few divas came to mind, who could actually be considered her equals- Natalya and Beth Phoenix. Phoenix seemed like the frontrunner.
The only interaction between them was when Kharma made her presence felt one night on Raw in the ring surrounded by many divas.
#2 Shawn Michaels Vs The Rock
↵
Another match that could have been in the making in the nineties but never really came to fruition.
Just recently, HBK revealed the reason behind this on Jim Ross’ podcast ‘The Ross Report’. He said that the Rock was just not interested.
In the late 90’s, they did have few segments together but nothing really led to a match between the two of the biggest babyfaces of the WWE. Some might still hold a faint hope that these might just collide but it’s still a distant hope.
#1 Stone Cold Steve Austin Vs Hulk Hogan
The one thing I want to make clear is that this might not be the most sought after match now as it was many years ago. But it might still be a draw.
The obvious reason why this is on top of this list is because these two are the biggest names in the wrestling industry. For a reason, I am glad it never happened. I don’t know if any one of them would have been satisfied with the other winning. That is my humble opinion. Nobody was a bigger draw in the WWE than Stone Cold and Hulk Hogan got mammoth mainstream attention which actually put WWE in the pop culture map.
They could have faced each other at Wrestlemania 18 but instead Rock faced Hogan and the rest is history.
