The RockSummerslam, without much surprise, proved to be the major talking point in the rumor mill this week. The show is just a week away and almost everyone out there is having an opinion about the pay-per-view. WWE is apparently looking, going haywire to make the show a success and their desperation was there to be seen throughout the last seven days.According the speculations, WWE is lining up big names for the show and if the rumor materializes, it will be a big boost. Elsewhere, there were talks about other returns and possible feuds after SummerSlam as well. Here is a detailed look at those speculations and their impacts.
#5 Post Summerslam returns
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
There were rumors about Dolph Ziggler making his return at SummerSlam but apparently, Ziggler might take a longer break. Lana told that Ziggler will only be back after SummerSlam but then again, this could turn out to be WWEs way of producing a surprise return for the showoff. He might show up this week on Raw and take out Rusev. This could in turn result in a match between Ziggler and Rusev at SummerSlam.
While Zigglers return could or could not happen before SummerSlam, the fate of Erick Rowan is pretty much sealed. He is expected to be out of the pay-per-view and will only be back in action a few weeks later. Kane is also rumored to return after SummerSlam.
#4 The backup plans that WWE had
WWE recently added John Cena vs. Seth Rollins match to SummerSlam. However, the company was not sure about Cena’s chances of making it onto the show and built up some credible backup plan. A match between Seth Rollins and Randy Orton was the first option and the match we saw on Raw was supposed to be a curtain-raiser.
A triple threat between Sheamus, Orton and Rollins was also in discussions. These plans were flushed down the drain once Cena recovered and looks like we are going to see a one on one match between the two champions after all. Speaking of which, the result of the match proved to be another talking point.
#3 Both champions to keep their titles at SummerSlam
Both the United States Championship and the WWE championship will be up for grabs at SummerSlam. It is a winner takes all match between Cena and Rollins and though the fans want to see someone win both the titles, WWE will probably go for a safe ending. There are planning to let both champions keep the championships and it will be interesting to see how they play it out.
Kane coming in and interfering is a possibility but then again, Kane is only expected to be back after SummerSlam. Rollins getting disqualified is another option and either way, we might not get to see the crowning of a new WWE or United States Champion at SummerSlam.
#2 Kevin Owens to get a surprise rival
The comments that Randy Orton made on Kevin Owens made the headlines this week. There was a heated debate about the involvement of Vince McMahon in the same and a clear conclusion was not reached. On the other side, WWE officials might be planning the next big feud for Kevin Owens. Owens had some matches with Chris Jericho in the house shows and the superstars managed to impress both the fans and the WWE officials.
WWE is now trying to book the feud for television. Working with Jericho at this point will be a great thing for Owens. Jerichos willingness will be the biggest hurdle and if WWE could work a way through it, then the fans will be treated with something special.
#1 Huge superstars to be at SummerSlam?
As mentioned earlier, WWE is looking to make SummerSlam a huge success. They have added eight solid matches to the card and have hyped the pay-per-view in every way possible. And now, WWE is looking to bring in big names like Steve Austin and Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson for the show.
Austin, Rock along with Kevin Nash will be present in New York during the night of SummerSlam and are expected to make surprise appearances at the show. The Way in which they will be used is still a mystery and nothing is confirmed till now. There is a big chance of plans changing between now and then, so fingers crossed.
