Will this be a familiar sight on Cena’s return?I thought I would be angry at the news of John Cena potentially coming back to WWE before the Dec. 26th date set for his return, but for some reason, I am quite excited to see the program between the former United States Heavyweight Champion, Alberto Del Rio, and the man he took the strap from at Hell in a Cell. The news, which originally was posted on F4W online and seen on wrestlinginc.com reads as follows...As noted, John Cena is currently away from WWE on a hiatus. He's advertised to return at the December 26th WWE live event from Madison Square Garden and will be working the annual post-Christmas tour.According to F4Wonline.com, plans as of this week have Cena returning at the December 13th WWE TLC pay-per-view from Cena's hometown of Boston. The idea is to have Cena face WWE United States Champion Alberto Del Rio in his rematch from Hell In a Cell. Cena will obviously get the big reaction as the show is in Boston. The win by Del Rio was a shock to the fans in attendance in Los Angeles for Hell in a Cell – not because of Del Rio’s win, but how systematic it was. Del Rio immediately transitioned from a man who just earned a title to a man fighting to become WWE World Champion in the Fatal Four Way match which was won by Roman Reigns. Now, Del Rio is in a bit of a predicament. One pay-per-view, Survivor Series, stands in the way of Del Rio keeping his title and facing his nemesis, Cena for a rematch. Who steps in and challenges the new champion. Better yet, how does Cena’s return affect TLC and will it lead to a title match at the Royal Rumble potentially against Roman Reigns?WWE isn’t doing anyone a favor by bringing back Cena before the end of the year, except to pick up ratings and to sell the hell out of the pay-per-view in his hometown of Boston. What better way to cap off the year with a win and a United States Title around his waist?WWE needs a huge push for the final to pay-per-view events to jump into the Royal Rumble in Orlando with a buzz over a new company champion, and potentially a white-hot feud between Del Rio and Cena. This might be the chance to make that happen. But once TLC is over, who becomes Cena’s biggest foe? Here are a few ideas.
#1 Daniel Bryan
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
At some point, Daniel Bryan is going to return to action. When he does, it will be electric.
WWE would hit the jackpot if Bryan and Cena hooked up in a rivalry of epic proportions. With the United States Title on the line and the Bella Twins… wait, I am getting too ahead of myself.
Bryan’s injuries have to be on the mind of the company and corporate officials. I don’t see him jumping back into the main event picture – unless Seth Rollins is involved. Bryan and Cena could still take the roof off of Orlando at the Royal Rumble, should a match like that be worked out.
#2 Sheamus
There is no place for Sheamus right now in WWE. The only thing holding him around a potential main event is the Money in the Bank briefcase. We also know the fans have no interest in seeing him cash that golden case in anytime soon.
So, what do you do with a remade wrestler who is nothing more than a jobber right not in the company? You either turn him into a tag team wrestler or he loses his bid to be the company’s top dog and challenges for a mid-card belt.
Sheamus is already advertised in a match on Dec. 26 against Cena. Why not make this the beginning of a decent feud for the Irishman?
#3 Samoa Joe
What is WWE waiting for? There were rumors last week that Joe would be the man to accept John Cena’s US Open Challenge. Instead, we all got Alberto Del Rio. Joe will come to WWE and tear the joint apart.
I wonder if his emergence in the company will have the same kind of impact as Kevin Owens had when he challenged Cena and then beat him in their first match together. I have always been a fan if Joe in TNA and on the independent circuit.
It also stands to reason that NXT talent must prove they are the best against the best. Cena is the best opportunity to get over with the fans.
#4 Cesaro
I am going to continue to beat this one into the ground. Cesaro is still the best wrestler in the company, hands down and the strongest competitor on the roster.
Why wouldn’t we see him competing for a mid-card title? Vince McMahon has no intention of giving him a shot at Roman Reigns – should he win the WWE World Title and his talent is too good to waste. Cesaro has worked well in the ring with Cena recently and could produce a three-match dance worthy of the fans’ attention.
In this case, Cesaro doesn’t need to be charismatic. All he needs to do is overpower Cena and prove he belongs on this level.
#5 Dean Ambrose
Here is my crazy thinking on this idea.
Ambrose is going to cost Roman Reigns the WWE World Title or his title shot or challenge him once he dethrones Seth Rollins. Or, he will do all these things and not be rewarded.
Ambrose presents the perfect storm for Cena, an upstart with a crazed mentality who sells well. Cena won’t have to worry about Ambrose bringing his own brand of excellence. What you see is what you get.
Obviously, the program with Reigns and Seth Rollins will need to end before WWE can entertain this kind of spot, but it is well worth the investment for both men.
