The special guest referee?WrestleMania season is that part of the year when WWE steps up their game and tries to deliver the best possible wrestling product out there. At times, the things they do are well on target while at other instances, they mess up big time. Despite this rollercoaster ride, one thing remains constant: the flow of rumors about the pay-per-view.Also read: WWE Wrestlemania: 5 Shocking Facts You Didn’t KnowWhile WrestleMania season is the time when WWE goes into overdrive, it is also the time when the internet fans go into a phase where they speculate about each and every thing that pokes up. This habit has given rise to a string of rumors this year as well and here is a rundown on the biggest ones from the lot.
#10 Wyatt Family to be limited to Andre the Giant battle Royal
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
Wyatt Family was once tagged as the most original gimmick in the current era. They had a solid start to their main roster run but soon, the momentum fizzled off. After a turbulent Roller coaster ride, Wyatt Family is staring at WrestleMania 32 without a major feud. Bray is scheduled to face Brock Lesnar at Roadblock, but the status of the faction at WrestleMania is still clouded.
According to the rumor mills, WWE is planning to let the Wyatt Family shine in the Andre the Giant Battle royal. The Wyatts does deserve better but considering the current situation, something would always be better than having no impact on the pay-per-view at all.
#9 Sami Zayn scheduled for a match at WrestleMania
Rumors about a potential main roster call up of Sami Zayn are very old. These were relevant even before Zayn’s injury. Now that he has returned, the rumors have poked up again. The speculations suggest that Zayn would be making his main roster debut at Roadblock so that he could set up a WrestleMania match with Kevin Owens for the Intercontinental Championship.
If we recall, it was Zayn that eliminated Owens from the Royal Rumble match and it was Owens that injured Zayn. This sets up the match perfectly and as the two men have a lot of history from their indy days, this match will steal the show if it happens.
Sami Zayn returned on RAW this week to save Neville from the hands of Kevin Owens that pretty much confirms Zayn's availability at the grandest stage of them all.
#8 Arrow and Stardust to face off again
Stephen Amell made his WWE debut at last year’s SummerSlam and could also feature in this year’s WrestleMania. Amell worked in a tag team match at SummerSlam alongside Neville against Stardust and Bad News Barrett and this time around, it could be a singles bout against Stardust. The Arrow star impressed critics with his performance in between the ropes and fans will have no complaints about seeing him work again.
The star power of Amell could help WWE as well. The rumors were sparked off when Stardust crashed the comic con panel of Arrow and threw water at the actor.
#7 Daniel Bryan in 2016 Hall of Fame
Daniel Bryan’s retirement was one of the most emotional moments on the Road to WrestleMania. Bryan, who gave us a memorable story two years back, all of a sudden had to hang up his boots and it proved to be a big loss for both WWE and the fans. Bryan’s retirement was also a topic for a long list of rumors.
Some rumors suggested that Bryan’s retirement was a work and that he was going to return to action for WrestleMania. These were soon shot down but that led to the birth of another set of rumors that suggested his induction to this year’s Hall of Fame. Some suggest that Bryan would headline this year’s class. It is to be seen whether it would turn out to be true or not.
#6 Multiple superstar bout for Intercontinental title
While the possibility of an Intercontinental Championship bout between Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens is a major talk in the rumor mills, another rumor that came up about the title revolves around a multiple superstar match at the pay-per-view.
Superstars like Dolph Ziggler, Miz, and the Big Show have been closely involved with Kevin Owens over the past few weeks and WWE could be thinking about including all these men into a match just like the ladder match that they had at WrestleMania 31. If this is indeed the case, the odds will be stacked against Owens and it would be an exciting match to say the least. Also, WWE could save the Owens vs. Zayn showdown for some other time.
#5 Batista or Shawn Michaels as guest referee
The appearance of Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and Steve Austin at WrestleMania is confirmed. They are expected to play a non-wrestling role in the pay-per-view although we have no idea about the actual segment they are going to be involved in. Meanwhile, the internet is also suggesting the appearances of Shawn Michaels and Batista at the event.
Batista initially turned down the offer to appear at the show due to other commitments but the rumor has resurfaced once again. The Animal or Michaels could end up being the special guest referee in the Triple H vs. Roman Reigns match at WrestleMania. Michaels would be an apt guest referee as he has history with Triple H.
#4 WrestleMania to set up brand split
The talks about bringing back the brand split were there even before the return of Shane McMahon. Now that Shane is back and there is this whole power struggle angle in place, the brand split rumors have gained more momentum.
Shane is all set to face Undertaker at WrestleMania for control of Monday Night Raw and if Shane goes on to win it, we could well see a full blown brand split with Shane heading Raw and Vince heading SmackDown. But it does not end there, Triple H and his stars in NXT would also have a say in the mix. It would be a three-way battle if there is a brand split and it will all depend on what happens at WrestleMania.
#3 Cena could face Undertaker
Once WWE announced that Shane McMahon would face Undertaker at WrestleMania, some fans dropped their concerns about the quality of the match. Shane hadn’t wrestled for ages and Undertaker is well past his prime. This led to rumors about Shane McMahon finding a star to represent him at the pay-per-view.
The first name that came into the fold was that of Sting. But the physical condition of Sting shot down this rumor and this brought in John Cena into the mix. Cena is known for being Deadpool when it comes to recovering from injuries and the chances of this rumor materializing are pretty high.
#2 Ronda Rousey to have a segment
Ronda Rousey came in and had a big impact at WrestleMania 31. The segment she had with Stephanie McMahon, Triple H and Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, deserve a sequel and it could happen at WrestleMania 32 if things go as Vince McMahon plans.
The only thing that is holding Ronda back is Dana White and if there is a way around it, we could get to see Ronda make a huge impact on the show. With Ronda looking to get back on track by facing Miesha Tate for the Bantamweight championship, an appearance at WrestleMania could be what she needs to get her excitement levels up before the big showdown.
#1 John Cena to appear in non-wrestling role
John Cena’s injury was a big blow for WWE. Despite the polarizing reaction that Cena gets, he is still WWE’s biggest draw from a WrestleMania point of view and losing him to injury was not something that Vince McMahon wanted. Although Cena is known for making miraculous returns from injury, this might not happen this time around.
So WWE might’ve come up with a solution. If we go by the rumors, WWE are planning to let Cena appear in a non-wrestling role at WrestleMania. The star power of Cena would be put to good use in such a situation and it would be a move that's best for business if WWE does let Cena appear.
Vince is also reportedly pushing for a John Cena-Undertaker match for WrestleMania 33 or Summerslam, and if WWE is really serious on having the match, expect the Cenation leader to kickstart the program in Dallas on April 3rd.
