Arizona State vs. Arizona Prediction, Odds, Line, Spread, and Picks - November 25 | 2022 NCAA Football Season

Arizona State v Colorado
Arizona State v Colorado - Xazavian Valladay is probable for Friday's matchup. He is one of the best rushers in the country.

On Friday, the Arizona Wildcats (4-7) will host the Arizona State Sun Devils (3-8) in the 96th rendition of the Territorial Cup. The Sun Devils have won five straight against their in-state rivals, but the Wildcats still own a 49-45-1 lead in the series. Arizona State's season has been filled with turmoil and disarray, but they can salvage their season with a win over Arizona. They lost three straight and fired former head coach Herm Edwards after a home loss to Eastern Michigan. Quarterback Emory Jones, who transferred in from the Florida Gators, never really improved his game after moving from the SEC to the Pac-12 and is partially to blame for the disastrous season.

The Wildcats have been an aggressive yet inconsistent group this season. After an eye-popping 34-28 win at UCLA, they lost to Washington State at home, 31-20. Quarterback Jayden De Laura, one of the best gunslingers in the conference this season, had his worst start, throwing four picks against two touchdowns in the loss. The Cats outgained the Cougars 441-354, but couldn't overcome the turnover differential.

Tale of the Tape

After an 8-5 season and his fourth straight winning campaign, Herm Edwards was canned after a 1-2 start this season. Assistant coach and former long-time Chandler (AZ) high school coach Shaun Aguano took over for Edwards, but with the Sun Devils sitting at 3-8, they are a loss away from posting their worst season since 1994. Although Arizona State is having a tough season, it is yet to stop running back Xazavian Valladay. He leads the Pac-12 in touchdowns (16) and is second with yards from scrimmage with 1,367. The offense is 8th in the conference in total yards per game (373.5) and yards per play (5.9).

The Devils have done an above-average job stopping the pass, but have been gashed by the ground game this season. They allow nearly five yards per rush and 2.4 rushing touchdowns per contest. The defensive unit has only recovered one fumble through 11 games this season.

The Arizona Wildcats are in year two of the Jedd Fisch era. After a rough 1-11 2021 season, the Wildcats are a much better 4-7 heading into the final week of the regular season. Although Jayden De Laura, the former starting QB at Washington State, leads the conference in interceptions with 12, he has thrown 25 touchdowns and run for four more. His favorite target, Jacob Cowing, leads all Pac-12 receivers with 80 receptions and surpassed 1,000 yards receiving last week. UofA has the third-best passing attack in the conference regarding passing yards. Overall, they are fifth in terms of yards per play.

The Wildcats' defense allows an astounding bad 69% of opposing passes to be completed. They are equally as bad against the run, permitting 233 rushing yards per game. They trail only lowly Colorado as the worst in the Pac-12 yards allowed per game and yards per play.

Arizona State vs. Arizona Prediction

Although it is Thanksgiving weekend, the stadium in Tucson, Arizona, should be packed for the biggest game of the Wildcats season. While UofA plays zero defense, they have an offensive unit that can spin it and has kept them in games all season. Since Arizona State switched from Emory Jones to Trenton Bourguet, the offense has taken up a notch regarding production. Ride with the over and hope for some fireworks.

Prediction: Over 65.5 (-110)
