Duke Blue Devils vs. Kansas Jayhawks Key Stats
Duke's big man and true freshman, Kyle Filipowski, has stood out, recording two double-doubles to start off his college career. The seven-footer is taking over Mark Williams' spot, who started 39 games at center for the Blue Devils last year. Williams was selected in the first round by the Charlotte Hornets, but Duke should be in good hands with Filipowski, who was this year's #7 recruit in the country, according to ESPN. Duke's stacked recruiting class includes #1 overall recruit Dereck Lively, who only has 14 minutes played so far, but he figures to give Duke one of the best frontcourts in the country.
The second overall recruit in the nation, forward Dariq Whitehead, is still nursing a foot injury and won't be available tonight. In his absence, look for freshman Mark Mitchell to keep enjoying a higher usage rate, as he's already tallied 31 points through two games. Junior guard Jeremy Roach leads the team with six assists, and he'll be looking to carve out a bigger role this year.
Kansas' top recruit Gradey Dick has impressed over the first two games, totaling 35 points already on very efficient shooting numbers. Dick, along with junior Jalen Wilson, have accounted for over 40% of their team's points, so look for them to be the go-to options once again tonight. Dajuan Harris, the Jayhawks' point guard, has been solid too, providing 13 dimes so far, and Texas Tech transfer Kevin McCullar is a solid offensive option as well. Kansas' defense has been excellent so far, and we'll see if they can maintain this level against Duke's pair of seven-footers tonight.
Duke Blue Devils vs. Kansas Jayhawks Betting Prediction
Duke has outscored their opponents by 73 points, but tonight they'll have a much tougher task. This game is in a neutral venue, so expect neither team to have a crowd advantage. Back Kansas here to pull the mini-upset, because they are ranked slightly higher, but also because they have two scorers in Dick and Wilson who can carry the team down the stretch.
Prediction: Kansas ML (+114)
