Marquette vs Central Michigan Key Stats
Marquette guard Tyler Kolek had an excellent all-around game on Monday, coming just shy of a triple-double. Kolek finished with nine points, eight rebounds, and eight dimes in the win, and he'll figure to be Marquette's top playmaker after leading the Golden Eagles in assists last year with 5.9. He's joined by returning guard Kameron Jones, who had 10 points and six boards in the opener, as well as big man Osasere Ighodaro, who had 19 points and seven rebounds Monday. All starters finished with nine or more points previously, so we'll see if they can have another balanced scoring attack tonight.
Central Michigan doesn't have high expectations this year, but they'll be out to prove everyone wrong. Sophomore point guard Kevin Miller figures to be their best player after posting averages of 13.1 points and 4.6 assists last season. Miller's supporting cast consists of transfer Jesse Zarzuela, who paced Coppin State in scoring a year ago with a tick under 15 per game. Also, Brian Taylor is now in his senior year, and freshman Reggie Bass and Max Majerle will look to step in and contribute right away. The Chippewas had four players in double-digit scoring last year that are no longer on the roster, so we'll see who can make a bigger impact this season.
Marquette vs Central Michigan Betting Prediction
Marquette didn't cover on Monday on the road, but behind experienced coach Shaka Smart, the Golden Eagles should be more dominant tonight. Central Michigan has a lot of chemistry issues to work out with all these new players on their roster, so expect the host Golden Eagles to take advantage of this tonight in their home opener. Marquette struggled against the spread down the stretch last year, but with several players poised to have breakout seasons, expect this trend to be reversed. Back Marquette to win and cover against a team that struggled all of last year.
Prediction: Marquette -17.5 (-115)
